There's a lot of 'posturing' between the different branches of the US Army:
    Aviation - Infantry
    Infantry - Artillery
    Artillery - ADA
    Intel - LRSD
    LRSD - LRRP
    Quartermaster - Tech Supply
HHC - The rest of the Army
I'll tell you this, if we heard a GUID-ONS, ALL STATIONS THIS NET, or, heaven forbid, PRAIRIE FIRE call come across Air Battle or FREQ HOP all of that posturing went out the window. You give me and my pilots your position, field of fire, and smoke to land to... as far as we are concerned your ass is as good as back in the rack. I'll give them 550 rounds cyclic from the time we break the tree line RP inbound until we are LZ clean.

When I was in Bosnia in ‘99-‘00, the Balkans had their worst snow since 1944. We got 6’ in 2 days.

10th Mountain was in Tuzla, where they got 8’ of snow. It was the first time American and Russian soldiers working together understood the fundamental understanding of “this is some bullshit.”

Wait a minute. The 10th Mountain, the guys who specialize in cold and mountainous combat were unable to cope with 8’ of snow?

Where did they do their cold weather training? Florida!

We thought it was funny too...but -20 for about 2 weeks sucked major ass. We couldn’t get resupply. The Germans ran out of beer and the Italians ran out of wine and we thought we were going to have a major international incident.

I think Stars and Stripes made a funny comparison of the two armies that were supposedly experts at fighting in the snow were unhappy about actually living it, but the former cold war enemies were working together yadda yadda yadda. Meanwhile, the poor Turks with us down in Sarajevo were miserable. They’d never seen snow before at all, let alone 6’ of it. The Norwegians didn’t skip a beat.

We were unhappy to have run out of beer, but we were able to barter hockey on AFN with the Canadians and peace prevailed.

Just 'cause you're trained in a particular warfare discipline doesn't mean you actually like it!

He said 8 feet. Just because we trained to deal with cold and snow, doesn’t mean we have to like it living in it.

-20 was a warm up when I was at Drum. We had periods of -40/50 for weeks. That one spring when temps hit 10-15 degrees, we PT’ed in shorts and t-shirt.

Yeah I didn't especially like doing snow tunnels during a FTX bivy, but hey, it is what it is. I still picked up xc skiing as a result though.

Saw my typo. Fixed it I meant feet. Heck, even a SoCal
beach kid like me could deal with 8” of snow.
