The Germans had something akin to that for shooting around corners in WWII!

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Lol, in 2003 I was on an OP, the first in the Korengal and we had a couple H&S attachments. A kid laid his rifle on the deck and the pilot banked hard to avoid RPG fire. I look out the rear gate and see an M16 launch out the back of the helo and this kids face was epic. That rifle made its way back several weeks later but was found in a bazaar several provinces away and looked like it fell out of a helo.
I remember being a boot and thinking if you fucked up a weapon or lost a part the world was ending. By the time I became a squad leader I had every part other than a stripped lower in my pack to replace whatever my squad lost. LOL… firing pin, no problem. I have 5.

lol, my favorite MRE is a fettucine carbonara with toasted Italian bread and a decent red wine.

seriously, favorite MRE isn't a thing. it's like asking someone their favorite way of being kicked in the neck.

Back in the ancient days, units would do training using MILES (Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System) gear and blank adapters like this to simulate firefights. Basically Laser Tag but for truly realistic training. And rifles had a sending unit that was activated by firing blanks, and it would send out a light pulse towards your target, and if you "hit" someone, one or more of the light receptors on their MILES gear would cause a"hit" and that person was either considered to be wounded or dead, and had to come out of the training exercise. While I was a POG (today's term), my unit was forward support at NTC, and we were occasionally invited to participate in these training exercises with the local Infantry battalion (not the full scale training sessions with visiting units from other bases, just local stuff between the full scale training rotations).

F*** MILES, and F*** the NCOIC with the God Gun. I got "killed" or "wounded" multiple times behind walls because they wanted my squad to have to deal with the SAW gunner going down. Once, I lasted a whole 3 minutes into it before I got a "chest wound" while behind cover reloading.
But, I did start volunteering to set up the mortars and other IED sims. That was fun, setting up compound attacks. Did one where I hit the second gun truck with a toe popper then blew the large sim when both the CC and ACC were next to it talking about how to get recovery started rather than using the radio. Did another where I set up a sim up in a tree like we saw the HME in Afghanistan. Blew that one down through a gunners turret into the truck.
