This fuckstick is the reason that everyone will have to do cyber awareness training again.

Yeah, fuck that asshat. He didn't even do it for some moral reason - he did it FOR INTERNET POINTS.

He needs to go test kevlar vests on an artillery range.

I don't know asshats complete story but how does a National Guardsman get anything of value that could do anything to hurt or help the U.S.? I guess I'll have to do some google searching about him. I know he was all over google news this morning, and @CaptAmerica I do like the testing of vests on the artillery range, that's some funny shit. Plus I know some guys that would love to send some rounds down range.

That was my first question too. How a junior enlisted guardsman has access to any of that information is mind blowing.

If he's an Intel career field, a lot of briefings get posted on SIPR and JWICS. There was a problem with this back in 2009 when I was just coming off of being the theater Information Assurance Manager for all high-side networks in the AOR. In the AAR I argued that these repositories weren't doing a very good job of restricting access on a need-to-know basis. So a big effort started to lock these sites down for specifics...and it clearly wasn't followed.

Knowing how that community works (and why I'll never work in it again) the paranoia is ratcheting up to 11. Everyone is now a suspect, and morale will once again jump back into the shitter.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
When I was in Iraq in 2005-2006 I had a SIPR line & laptop in my berthing area. It was manned and guarded 24/7 by one of the members of our squad. Long story short, one day some guy from admin drops off a roll of these red classified stickers. We did not have print capability but told us to post them on the door and on the laptop and pretty much anywhere with or around anything pertaining to the SIPR net. Us being us, broke out a fresh box of crayons and proceeded to hand them out and put these awesome stickers on everything we owned. They are not designed to come off and we thought nothing of it. Let's just say going through inspection in Kuwait on our way out was less than pleasant. LOL...

Fuckwit was a “cyber transport systems” technician. My old career field before the changes (and I went to 1B4).

That job has the keys to the kingdom…on the server side. He should not have had user-level access into the data repositories. I know this because I used to run those networks in a past life.

Just like how the Manning situation happened, a lot has to go bad (or jobs not done right) for this shitbird to get access to and away with what he did.

    Fuck his ISSO.

    Fuck his supervisor.

    Fuck the security manager.

    Fuck the records custodian.

And because those people fucked up, the commander is done. None of this may make the news, but we know it’s going to happen.

@CaptAmerica So could this guy be a scapegoat?

I agree with what a few guys posted up. Someone please tell me how an E-3 in the ANG was able to access this info and get it out. I cant accept the fact that a one A1C was capable of this. Or maybe like you stated there was a complete breakdown in his chain of command.

I've lived in A LOT of different SCIFs in my career. They are as good or as bad as their security manager. Clearly, this ANG unit must have a real dirtbag for a security manager.

For the analysts working in the facility, they require access to a variety of different sources in order to generate their reports. If you ever need someone who is a master expert king God Almighty lord genius of PowerPoint - an Intelligence Analyst is it.

The computer guys who maintain those systems ALSO have all of those same accesses because their job is to ensure the material is accessible and secured.

This is yet another case of "cops are the worst criminals." Normally, no one is alone. Access to printing is strictly controlled, printed output is inventoried and doing so requires the doer and approver. In a lackadaisical facility, it only takes one asshat to go to lunch or even an extended shit break and allow soon-to-be Airman Basic For Life Rock Breaker Dipshitowski to do whatever he wanted to do.

This also doesn't happen all at once - it happens over time. It requires lazy habits. I've seen it in so many places. I was THERE when the Wikileaks event occurred, and I had to brief the JFACC personally about how the Army's failures in Baghdad were not able to occur in my SCIF at the CAOC. Multiple times. With receipts. So many things were wrong about that - all Army failures from the security manager to the commander.

As this situation unfolds I can almost certainly guarantee you're gonna hear stories about negligence and incompetence within that unit. Please don't believe any conspiracy talk that this is just to "fry someone" to shift blame. In many situations, apathy and indifference caused more fatalities than adversarial action. SOPs exist for a reason, and (once again) this kind of shit can happen when they aren't followed religiously all of the time.
