I know you can't see it, but I was dry-heaving.

for what it's worth, I'm on Christmas Break and getting hammered while spending most daylight hours fly-fishing.

If you're not retired yet, folks... you're gonna love it. I don't get up at crazy hours to do crazy stuff in crazy weather anymore.
I am just getting to the point where I can enjoy beautiful scenery. You know, looking at beautiful snow-covered mountains with the knowledge that I will not be required to climb them.
    That kind of thing.

    It's pretty good.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Have any of you ventured to watch Reacher on prime? I had watched season 1 and it was not very good but a friend was like "oh man, season 2 is awesome". Last night I figured I would give it another shot. Now get the premise is that this dude "Reacher" is the former leader of what they are painting to be like an Army block ops MP investigative division. The main dude plays an O4 and he recruits I guess misfits from around the Army to be in his select group. Anyway, season 2, first episode and they flash back to when they all meet. The O4 is all cool and keeps telling everyone not to call him sir. Then he tells them they are all going to grab a beer. The next scene is them being at what is apparently the O-Club though in the prior scene they were not on a base and it seemed they made it a point to play this location as a black site the government purchased by accident. Then they are sitting around a table drinking a beer. One dude no shit wearing a wife beater and a female character is an E8. First she says something about being out ranked and Reacher makes the joke that she is a Master Sargent so almost everyone out ranks her. Then some other massive dude gets up and tells them that they have to get out of the O-Club when Reacher gets up and starts to defend his rag tag crew. Then the E8 attempts to deescalate the situation and says they will leave when the apparent officer who is in utilities with his blouse off by the way snaps back at the E8 to "shut up, the adults are talking". I was like okay. Enough of that. I mean I normally do not get wound up over shit like that but these productions have military advisors and shit. Obviously for this one it is a former member of the officer ranks. One with a large ego that probably did not reach beyond O2. Hell with that perspective probably O1. Anyway, that's my rant. It only pissed me off because people who have never been in the military see this shit and think that is how it actually is. And it leads to taking all the credibility from the enlisted ranks. Long story short. I do not recommend that show! LOL...

The majority of officers I worked with are/were awesome. A handful were not. Much like with anyone else. Though any officer I respected showed me the same in return.

Meh, I just watch it for the entertainment.

I can't watch any movie or show with military shit going on and not blurt some BS out, especially when it comes to shooting and guns. It drives my wife nuts.

    yup,
Most movies and shows are flawed from a military perspective. Only a few are well done. One show i like that i thought was really well done was was Terminal list but still had its flaws

I would agree. I think it captured uncomfortable and bored Marines quite well!

I think it probably is one of the MOST accurate of all. The actual characters were the ones on set advising, at least the sergeant was, he's the one that wrote the script for the most part I believe. I saw a talk with him telling about how it came to be..

yeah, because enlisted never get invited to the officer's club. because the O club is definitely the place where officers go to get drunk and rowdy, it's not at all where they have Christmas parties or OPDs or where their wives gather for white glove luncheons. I can't take the show seriously, so I don't. Every time I see the male lead I just imagine him as a glorified extra from the Hunger Games, because... he is.

a production advisor isn't going to have access to the writers, and everyone in the film industry (makeup, costumes, props) are all trying to put their mark on the production. it's how they get ahead (or think they will) and they all think they're the best for the job. if you want to see out-of-control egos at work just hang out at a production set, it's hilarious. most of the people at them are caricatures of themselves.
