Ok, now that you describe them, that does sound familiar. I probably did see them once or twice, someone else wearing such uniforms. But they weren't sold at my base's Clothing store, so I never had them.

I went in just before that in 1986. My Basic photo is identical except I don't look tough; I would post it but I will spare the viewer the absolute worst, "is-he-even-old-enough" photo of me that ever existed. We did not turn the t-shirt inside out but were made to wear them backwards in order to get the collar up the neckline to avoid exposing as much of the neckline as possible.

ADD: and our name tapes did not match either. The name was printed with that tacky-looking ink while the U.S. Army was embroidered. The DS's would smoke us because they didn't match if they had no other valid reason at that particular point in time.

Yeah, back in the day we had our camouflaged field uniforms starched and pressed because the military needed them to be more retarded.
edited to add: General Pace doesn't seem to understand the difference between being outnumbered and being outmatched.

He probably made everyone starch and press their camouflaged field uniforms.

Ahh yes the memories of getting extra starch at the cleaners or using stitch witch to get your creases razor sharp. Nothing more fun than walking around Texas in the summer with a freshly starched and pressed uniform. To quote the famous poet Lil Jon "till the sweat drops down my", I wont finish the lyric. If you know you know.
