He is in a position where he outranks every general. Rank is not always indicative of qualifications. There are fat and lazy at all levels of ranks, which is what secretary Hegseth was speaking about. I didn’t like all of Lloyd Austin’s decisions, like forcing millions to get a vaccine that was unproven but…you follow the orders regardless if you “Like” them or not.

 

True, though I’d argue that the least experienced general or non-commissioned officer in that room still is more qualified by far than a National Guard major. At best Hegseth is a decent talk radio host for the modern entertainment news media.

I don’t disagree with everything that the man is pushing, it’s the attitude and way he does it that rubs me wrong.

For example, there’s really no valid argument against a single physical fitness test standard for combat jobs. While that means a lot of women won’t be able to do it but I’ll be the first to admit that there are women in the service that would have absolutely put me to shame when I was in my prime as a scout. It’s not about man or woman, it’s about being in the physical condition to survive when the shit turns nasty.

Objective, task based standards. I mean really, that should mean that the age based reductions in PT standards should go away too. I guess they can backdoor it in by saying, E1-E6 have X standard, E7+ have (reduced) standard based on expected workloads, or something like that.

Also, yeah everyone should be able to defend a rear base, but in 2025, that gets a little wild - sure bangbang against incoming personnel, but also anti drone, maybe making sure comms works when you're the last (guy/gal) standing, in any case the basic task list is going to get wayyyy bigger and the big services are going to need to figure how to properly cross train everyone.
