Not really a valid argument by support units. Ever since Iraq, they have had M249s, m240Bs, m203s and M2s as organic weapons systems. Not sure when you retired but they have had those systems for 15 years now. There is plenty of lethality, there wasn’t really a need for full auto M4s. Hell they fall in on MRAPs and their trucks have lvl 5 armor kits now. That’s in the BSBs even. The days of us coming to the rescue of a convoy with only 1/4 plate steel is long gone.

Additionally, controlled rates of fire were already an issue with the TTP of controlled pairs in a close range scenario. Don’t get me wrong, the TTP makes sense, just units that aren’t used to fire fights or sustained rates of fire in those fire fights tend to be the same units that EVERYONE opens fire on a target they don’t even have positive id of.

Got ya. Seemed longer ago with the Jessica Lynch thing. Also wasn’t sure if you were aware that CS and CSS units had more then just M16s based off some other comments.

Wasn’t meant to be a dig btw! So apologies if it came across that way.

The reality is, you’re correct in that it was probably more politically and economically driven then any real need.

Exactly why I retired. Made it 15 years before I had to play politics. When I refused to, it just made me seem like the asshole.

No reason to monitor MEDPROS to the point of trying to beat amber. Also no reason to have to explain why my troops have been red on dental for more then a week when they have an appointment already established. When the BC or CSM actively tries to circumvent a MED board because they think soldiers are just trying to get a pay check, that’s a problem. If you are just asking questions to validate or understand, I get it. If it looks like the same doctor is sending people to the board over and over again then I get that too. But pretty sure we can trust our medical professionals that have made it the level of making PEB recommendations, to make those decisions ethically. No need to ask if we can chapter multiple soldiers for malingering based only off going to a MED board. Many more examples but that’s just the most basic of nonsense politics just to get a high five from your boss.

Wonder how long it took before his NCO was told to escort him to the barber to fix that abortion of a hair cut.

One of the best times of my life was running a quad .50 that came off of some kind of river boat.

We are talking meg fed full auto. A couple 249s and/or 240s absolutely have their place, especially on an assault or responding to an ambush. There’s a reason it’s considered an area (vs point) weapon for a reason though. Still back to the burst vs full, no point to full auto meg fed weapon in military operations. Really isn’t much of a point to burst either.
