I just noticed that my running tail lights and license plate lights aren't working. A couple of weeks ago, I also noticed that the reminder tone for when the lights are left on is no longer working. Im trying to troubleshoot the issue and the painted diagram on the fuse box under the hood has rubbed off. Two questions:

1- is the tail light issue related to the reminder tone issue?

2-which fuse should I be checking for the tail lights?

Thanks in advance for any insight you can lend into this issue.

    1. Yes it is possible - if Tail Fuse is out. Tail fuse is powering Integration relay.
    2. Tail Fuse (10A in engine compartment)

By the way if tail fuse is out, also front marker lights (front corner lights) should be out too.

Last question: when you turn on lights does your panel lights up? If not, than it could be a problem with Tail Relay (also in fuse box in engine compartment).

Thank you for this info! Yeah my panel lights up with the lights on, so I'll check the tail relay too. Thanks for your ideas- I have no idea about electrical stuff haha.

If your panel lights up than tail relay is OK (it provides power to panel and lights). So it must be the tail fuse. If front marker lights do not turn on when turning lights on then it must be that tail fuse. It is called tail fuse, but it powers front parking lights (a.k.a front corner lights), tail lights (a.k.a rear parking lights) and license plate lights. It also goes to Integration relay (in newer Toyota models Integration Relay got computerized and is named "Body ECU") that sounds the buzzer when you open the door while having lights turned on.

Man this is awesome. The TAIL fuse was blown, got some replacements in the mail. Thanks for taking the time to explain the relationship between the tail relay and the tail fuse. Just to circle back, the front corner lights are also out, which I hadn't noticed.

Now to figure out what caused the fuse to open.

Just where the short is can take some time.

If you don`t have a Multi Meter good time to invest in one

There is a safe way do do it by replacing the fuse with 65W bulb. You will be able to test all circuits without blowing the fuse and setting truck on fire. The short can be as simple as a faulty bulb or as complicated as rubbed off insulation in the most difficult spot. Often culprit is a trailer adapter if installed.

Same problem - running lights not working (front and back). Can't figure it out what fuse they operate off of. I checked every one of 'em and they all look good so I'm guessing it's a relay circuit that is bad. If anyone can be specific about what fuse it is that would be awesome. 2015 Tacoma X-cab. I found out they weren't working right when a cop pulled me over to warn me about 'em.

Sorry, I don't have EWD for 2'nd gens. Ask question about 1995-2004 models, and I will be happy to guess for you :)
