Never understood the idea of waiting years for a new model to come out that may prove to not even be what you want to begin with. If the release was just around the corner, sure, but even 2012 is a little ways yet. If you like the current model, there's not time like the present;)

I don't see why people keep complaining about MPGs. Come on people it is a truck it's not made for getting good gas mileage... want gas mileage get a car.

And to your question sure I'd wait if they were coming out next year, but not 2012.

Well we already have an idea of what the 2012 Tacoma is going to look like, just look at 2010 4runner. I like it, the rims on the Trail Edition are awesome.

Agree to an extent. I think driven conservatively, these trucks are pretty solid mpg-wise. However, driven normally (as most us do), I think they could stand to improve a little especially when compared to modern fullsizes.

True. But compared to some others, it's getting good gas mileage... take for example the Nissan Frontier, a friend of mine owns one, and he drives very conservatively, and he still on gets around 14.5-15, while me thrashing my taco, i'm getting in the 18.5 range consistently. i'd say that's pretty good. don't you?

We do have an idea of what it "might" look like (and I agree I like the looks of that as well). I like the looks of it, but what if the there's no locker available? Lower GC? Different chassis? Uni-body?:( You never know. Vehicles will only continue to become more street-oriented as the years go on.

I wouldn't wait at this point. I like to wait a model year before I purchase a new vehicle. I like for the first run kinks to be engineered out...

Heck, I'm sluggish to buy anything the second it's introduced. I like for bugs to be figured out and fixed.

Unless...of course... I needed something new right away...

Yep. Nissan isn't necessarily known for their fuel efficiency:D However, I agree, though, 18.5 for regular driving in a truck like our size certainly is far from horrible.

Mother of Chisti! I agree, hate it when people gripe about mileage. Do they think Toyota is going to produce a 30+ mpg mid-size miracle truck. If you bought a Taco for mileage you bought the wrong vehicle. If all I had to be concerned with is mpg I would have bought a scooter!

    Bringing this to the top...

Edmunds seems to think the tacoma will be redesigned for a 2011 model. Any substance to their theory (They have a placeholder for it on their website...and with the new 4 runner, I wonder if the tacoma will be renewed soon as well?)

the 4runner isn't built on a taco chassis btw...so i doubt a re-model due to their similarities is in store...

and the last new 4runners came out way before the 2nd gen tacos...

Iam thinking about tradeing in my truck for the new tacoma but a 4x4. Thats one of the reasons I haven't lifted it yet.
I read in "4D Toyota Owner" that the 2010 FJ Cruiser features new engine upgrades that includes dual VVT-i and roller rocker arms on the 4.0L V6 which adds 19HP and 1 MPG increase. Both the FJ and taco share the same engine. Maybe this will be the same on the new tacoma

I see... I was under the impression they were (obvious newb).

I'll be buying next year (early summer) and I'd hate to have a new model roll out in the fall with the things that I felt were missing compared to the full size trucks (full size bench in access cab, leather option, power rear windows, navi-option, 6sp transmission...)

I guess I could always just upgrade eventually...
