I've never had issues with my backup camera, I use it a lot. I just clean the lens every two weeks to make sure the video is clear.

I still turn my head or use the mirrors to see where I'm backing.

And yes, I listen to the radio and play an occasional old CD too. :anonymous:

I also have a manual key and the lightweight 5 lugnut package. :D

I find the backup camera handy when at the big box stores when very busy. Helps me back out without running over someone or hitting a car pulling out behind me. Seems using just the mirrors you can't see everything directly behind you when its that close.

My outer lens is as clean as can be and I have blurriness around the edges of the display (thing was crystal clear last summer when I bought it). Thinking the Vermont winter got into the camera between lenses? Anyone taken these things apart for cleaning?

Im wondering if RainX would help at all. I clean mine every other day with a microfiber cloth. Its starting to get old already.

I’ve driven a rented RAM a lot recently and the quality of their backup cam is MUCH better than my ‘18 Tacoma’s.

With that said, I use my backup camera most every time I drive my truck and it works just fine for me to keep me from backing into the posts/neighbors truck.

As someone else mentioned, it may have to do with the head unit that Toyota chose and it’s resolution.

So just last week i got my 2021 Tacoma TRD PRO. I had the 2019 TRD before. The camera on the 2019 was simply amazing. the one on the 2021 is nothing short of worthless. its fuzzy, to the point where there is no point in trying to use it. any thoughts?

The way some people here described how they clean their camera lens off, no wonder why they get fuzzy images with all the scratches they’ve put on the lens cover! Those things are soft!

Probably less than 720. But how HD do you really need a camera that's meant to check your blind spot for probably 30 seconds, max?

I have the exact same issue- I too purchased a 21 PRO after owning a 17 Sport and am very disappointed in Toyota - this is a 50k truck and they can’t afford to put in a decent back up camera?

Well then I guess in layman’s terms , mine on my ‘21 ‘sucks.’
Especially when compared to the resolution in my GF’s 8 year old car.

I don't know if you can do this on the Tacoma but on my Nissan Murano I adjusted the brightness and contrast of the screen to help see better.

so i have a 2021 Trd PRO. its camera sucks. its worthless. yes, the lens is clean, bringing that up is insulting. my 2019 camera was a beautiful image. This weekend, i was in colorado and rented a car. they offered a tacoma, who was i to argue. I rented a 2021 SR5. its camera was what you would expect. a crisp, beautiful usable image.
