FWP Fab Locked Longbed Project & Rubbishery

Got the front bumper welded up. 80% grinding done. Still have a few spots to touch up on.

I have my rear bumper being delivered this thursday so i will see if my buddy is up for another job so soon. He is being compensated so i image he wont mind.

Once both bumpers are complete they will be powder coated semigloss black. Getting both done for $140!

Ok so picture time...

Took the bumper off the night before in preparation...


Some of the pieces need to have the excess from the plasma cutter ground off...


These DIY kits come with the center welded so that you will have a solid & straight starting point....


One side tacked...

Time to get grinding!!



4 hours of grinding....


Still needs a few places that need to touched up but its 80-90% done...




Note* the Ultra Shield Race Products sticker is from my buddies shop. They fabricate aluminum racing seats for race cars and trucks. They have way to may veriations of the seats to mention, they also make custom seats. Last week they made one that went into a Mazda, if the seat gets damaged in a wreck they ask you to send the damaged seat back and they give you 30% off your next seat from them!

I went out to Northwest OHV park in Bridgeport Tx this past weekend. First time to an OHV park... I took my truck out the first day, i got more video than photos...

Rear bumper has been welded up!!! I just need to do some grinding and sand blasting to get them ready for paint!!!

Ran into a couple problems when building the bumper....

1st off... both of these bumpers had damage to them during shipping. The front bumpers box looked like it was thrown out of the top of a tree. The second box looked way better however this happened... could have been from @RelentlessFab. Had to love on it with a hammer a bit.


Then there was this huge gap that we had to fill...


Had to grind down a couple corners to keep the bumper from scratching up the paint....




Here is the clearance for the tailgate...


All in all it was way easier than building the front, however i think the lines on the front are better, the rear peaces could have lined up a bit better to prevent welding large gaps together. I was expecting the bumper to get a bit closer to the level of the tail lights but i guess you get that with the high clearance bumpers. Its still a great looking bumper!

 

where did you get the LED interior lights? oh by the way nice truck.

 

Thanks bro! I got them from ebay or Amazon. They were cheap, i got a set for my truck, it came with LEDs for the licence plate, overhead, dome, and turn signals.

I didnt do anything with the turn signals though. I have found them in a few local car audio shops, but its hit or miss.

Well i have had the bumpers painted for a couple weeks now. I was hoping to get some better pics of them but these will do till then...

Yea i deff need a front skid plate.

 

I have been having this itch to go off roading, but i want to get these sliders first after a close call with a tree on my last trip.

1st trip to Colorado!

There wasnt any snow the first couple days....



Day 2 I decided to discover Colorado a bit... I found what i am assuming is a mountain pass of sorts... Just a back road that said 4x4 and high clearance recommended for 12 miles so i decided i would find out where it went.


Cant really see it, but my truck is waaayyyyyyy down there... This part of the path was traveled often because there is a small lake about 1 - 1.5 miles into the path. Past the lake it was a little more narrow and less traveled.



Thought maybe @RelentlessFab would like this one of their rear bumper...


Found a river entry to play in a bit...


And then on day 3 it snowed!!! Time to hit the mountain!

Visibility was low so more photos on day 4... These are from Purgatory Resort

Realizing high altitude and low oxygen can wear you out quick!! I almost started sweating from strapping by board on!






All in all, for my first trip to Colorado it was fun. I now see that more of my future summers will be spent in the mountains.

There will be more trips planed when i get some of your rock sliders!! I tried to contact your shop a couple times yesterday to see if you were running any black friday/cyber monday deals.... you guys must have been busy because i couldnt get a hold of anyone. haha.
