FYI - new 6x8 speaker install means you need to buy 1/4" spacers for them to fit

I went to put some new kicker speakers in my 04 doors but they hit the plastic mounting housing on one side. the 01-04 truck shave 6x8 speakers and the stock speakers are very flat and shallow yet good aftermarkets are more tapered and thick so it looks like it wont fit without some spacers.

it looks like if I cut it out, im cutting like 1/4 of the housing away, which means I am greatly weakening the speaker housing and it will vibrate way too much and not hold the speaker securely.

has anyone else had this problem and what did you do to solve it?

Yup I had the same issue with my pioneers. I just put the screws in and let the plastic kind of just bend with the speaker. Probably not the best way to do it I would cut it it I were you but so far I haven't lost any speakers or sound quality or bad vibrations and they've been in there over a year. Just make sure to test them before putting it back together because those door panels are a PITA

hmmm, so I could just let em sit a little crooked and tighten them in like that then, ok.

im really not keen on cutting the housing and don't think it would help unless I also cut into the door as well since it would also be in the way as well.

looks like putting some spacers and use longer screws is the way to go then.

I don't think you'll be able to space it out much further that it already it unless you're gonna cut the doors like you said. I would just do what I did honestly I think you'll be fine. I wouldn't recommend cutting the door panel because those Things are probably going to be expensive to replace

I measured and it shouldnt hit the door panel. if I screw it in like you did, then its going to stick up 1/4" higher on one side anyway so if it was going to hit the door panel then yours would be hitting already.

so I bought these http://www.car-speaker-adapters.com/items.php?id=SSK68 and that should solve the problem. they say they are specifically made to fix this issue. with these I can glue them on and I don't have to worry about any sound leakage around the speaker

wish someone had mentioned this is something you need whenever you replace oem speakers so I could have ordered them at the same time I ordered speakers.

do the back speakers have the same fit issues too?

I told you to peruse Crutchfield.com when researching speakers. They would have told you exactly that prior to purchasing. And if you bought it from them they would include the bracket and wiring harness for the speakers.

    Same with the head unit.

yeah well what can I say, I skimmed it and didn't read everything, I hate reading directions and "assume" its easier to figure things out then spend time reading about it :smack:

they overcharge so much for what they sell, i guess they can afford to give you free $10 spacers and plug adapters lol.

still would have been super nice and saved me some time if someone would have thought to mention that its something required you will need in any speaker change

Crutchfield is overpriced a bit. Not much. But they make up for it with customer service, warranty and throwing in wiring harnesses, brackets, etc all for free.

Hell the mic that originally came with my head unit was apparently awful (callers on the other end of my phone calls were complaining all the time). I spoke with Crutchfield about it and they sent me their best mic for free (normally $30).

your running 2 amps? or is that the "sub" everyone talks about?

if it is, why didn't you put it under the passenger side? I heard it can vibrate the shit out of you under the drivers seat

I wonder if anyone has ever taken out the bottle jack and flush mounted a sub in there.
