Get down to Galveston or one of the smaller port towns. There is alot of fun to be had on the beach.

I have not been out to General Sam's. Hidden Falls is about 3 hours away and is supposed to be an amazing place to off road. It is on my list to drive this year.

Check out the link above in tx_shooter's post about TX off road parks. Lake Conroe should be happening - Jet ski rentals, hint hint. Beach will be happening as was stated, scenery of the bikini type and all. Downtown Houston will be great fireworks show if they don't shut it down due to the drought going on. Someone is trying to but is still on for now. BBQ BBQ BBQ! Find something that involves water and/or shade because it's gonna be hot as I'm sure you know by now. Crisscrossed your state recently back in November going from Talledega to Fernandina Beach/Amelia Island. Great pecan logs and pecan syrup and vidalia onion goodies and such were had along the way. Have fun!

Got this going on on the 16th if you're still around. Beach wheelin, 20 miles in 20 miles out. There are maps and info in the thread, check it out.........

if you get a chance, check out shilo ridge in Alto. great place to do some wheeling and camping if you can find the time and they always have great things going on on holiday weekends.

Are you looking to do some off-roading in your truck or just something fun to do? Papa's Ice House on Lake Conroe is pretty fun; don't know if you are looking for a weekend thing or just to party on the 4th? It has been years since I lived out there, but there are a ton of rednecks out that way, so there has got to be somewhere to wheel! Sorry, that is not much help. However, you come up to Big D, I could give you a few more options.

I'm in Conroe and like someone said Papa's on the Lake is nice (beer, swimming pool, food). It's located on Hwy 105 West at McCaleb Rd across from the Sonic. Also Sam's Boat should have a lot going on...it's also on 105 on the Lake. Be careful b/c lots of troopers are going to be out this weekend and Montgomery County has the most troopers inthe state...many of whom are on 105...

If you and your coworkers have not been to Texas before you really should try San Antonio. It's only 3 hours away and it truly one of the best places Texas has to offer. The Riverwalk is fantastic and there are a million things to do (especially the Alamo). It would be a travesty to come to Texas and not go there!

New Braunsfels is also 3 hours away and and although the drought has killed the river tubing on the Guadalupe, the Comal is still going strong. I went there 2 weeks ago and the water was up and had a great time. Lots of people should be there this weekend and it's all about tubing down the river, drinking beer/beverages and having a good time. Real close to San Antonio so you could do both...

OP, the river is the shit, that is where I am headed twice later this month. Not a huge night life there, but you are a hop from Austin or San Antonio. My favorite place there, The River Road Ice House usually has some good Texas music and cheap cold beers, then there is Gruene Hall, good when there is a great band, otherwise very hot and sweaty on a Texas summer night with no A/C.

Thanks for the ideas and heads up. We are definitely going to hit up SA before we leave. Cant miss the Alamo! By the way, I think I spotted you at Buffalo Wing Wings around 945 tonight. I was parked on the end next to the att? store.
