All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Indeed, this is how I knew it was in the TCase. Drove my F’ing crazy for a year.
Until I found that vid on YouTube in which the guy put it in 4wd with the camera under it...he’ll you don’t even need the camera. You can completely feel the vibration go away like a light switch.

@tandemgeek - if this fixes your issues Dave and I will happily be paid in Tacos!

@tandemgeek - there are a couple places you can take it to get it looked at.
Southern Off Road Specialists is up that way. They are doing my gears and a needle bearing for me next week. Is mine vibrating, no..but it is a weak link and I am gonna do it while I am in there.

But I know of a few places that can do it. Most trans shops have the equipment to pull the bearing. Let me know if you need more help.

Here is a tip. Was trying to figure out how to get my pup up into my RTT.

Used those over priced recovery boards strapped to my ladder. All I had to do was pull the ladder out to full extension, and strap the boards to the ladder.

Bingo. Now I know it’s ghetto, but it worked and his ass is 90lbs now.

might be a dumb question, but would the vibration/needle bearing only apply to trucks that have ADD? Mine a first gen with Jshift and manual hubs..I have a vibration that I’m certain is the driveshaft angle, but this has got me thinking...

Doesn't sound like a needle bearing. You're chasing a ghost. My money is on a driveshaft that is out of balance if you are sure that your angles are correct. That being said, I don't think your angles are correct. So my official WebTW diagnosis: combination of bad driveshaft angles and out of balance shaft.

Why do I think the angles are off? The center support bearing is attached to the frame, which gets raised with the lift. When you leveled the truck, that angle changed. When you added the rear lift block, the angle changed more. That didn't bring it back to spec, that brought it further out of spec. So that's why I think the angles are off.

Why do I think the driveshaft is out of balance? You said it existed before you leveled it. I'm operating under the assumption that it was relatively low mileage when you got it. If you have a 7yr/100k warranty, that tells me that you bought it CPO. I know that doesn't mean everything, but it does mean that Toyota reviewed it and determined it to be in relatively good and close to factory condition when you purchased. For the vibration to occur when you originally purchased it, chances are that it was out of balance.

When my truck was still under warranty, the dealership performed a couple of TSBs to try to eliminate the problem. Including giving me a new driveshaft. I believe that they should be able to remove your shaft and determine if it is out of balance. Keep pestering and they will eventually give in. You may need to bring in your original salesman, or whoever told you it was a bad tire when you purchased it. They will be able to convince the service department that the issue existed before you made any modifications (no matter how minor they may seem).

If you get tired of them and decide to spend money out of pocket, look at a Tom Woods driveshaft. I have a feeling this may be in my future as I have a vibration that doesn't seem to want to go away. I've lived with it for quite a while and it has never really bothered me. Until I went down the path of trying to eliminate it....now it drives me insane. I kind of figure instead of trying shims at the axle or changing the angle of the center support bearing (ARB/OME sells a spacer to lower it) again. The end-all-be-all seems to be an aftermarket driveshaft. Either a solid one, or a 2 piece with a double cardan joint.

If you mentioned verifying angles, I missed it. I figured you were operating under the assumption that the angles were back to stock, which I found odd for an engineer.

Can you contact the service tech at the dealership in Cumming? See if they can do anything for you? I would seriously ask them (or your local dealership) to check the balance of the driveshaft. It sounds like you know enough about the terminology and could give them the history. They shouldn't argue too much. If they do: http://www.4xshaft.com/

This option is relatively close to the cost of paying for a driveshaft to be balanced out of pocket.

But you're basing that on the thought that OEM spec "works."

Clearly OEM spec numbers for the driveshaft have nothing to do with comfort or the lack of vibrations, since Toyota says it themselves... "A vibration is normal within specs."

There have been complaints since the 2nd gen was new, and it was never remedied. That's 15 years now. Unfortunately, they don't care.

But, if the vibration is "ok" from the factory, working with factory specs and equipment doesn't seem like it'll fix much.

Most people who know more about the angles and setup have concluded that it's a shitty design that Toyota stuck with for some reason, likely monetary on their end.
