I believe it’s “highly recommended” to replace the springs and such while you’re in there. I did when I replaced mine at about the same age as yours. The hardware kit wasn’t expensive from what I remember, even though I bought it from AutoZone. I’m sure you could find it even cheaper at Rockauto or Amazon. It was like $25 or $30 when I bought it a few years ago, from what I remember.

 

I fell victim to bed mat theft just before the weekend. Typically I keep a tonneau cover on the bed but have recently had to haul a chipper so the bed's been bare. Went to leave for breakfast yesterday morning and noticed someone swiped my bed mat. Either done at work (where my truck is literally less than 50 ft from me) or in my driveway as it was there Wednesday and I haven't been anywhere else since then. *facepalm* Guess I'm bolting the next one down.

 

I see we have a consistent methodology here..............

 

Hahahaha. I mean to be fair, that main spring is a real pain to reinstall, so I doubt that thing would stretch out. But whe I thought about how often the brakes are used, I started to think think “eh, maybe at least one of them isn’t as springy as they once were”. It was cheap insurance basically.

I suppose if you were trying to be real thrifty, there’s probably little risk in re-using the hardware. Worst case, the front discs can still stop you (found that out when I went for the test drive and forgot to adjust the rear brakes back out).

 

Wow that sucks. Thieves deserve to lose hands imo.

Definitely was me! Now I’m about to talk to my boss about checking our cameras at work and also getting a quote to install some wired cameras at the house I’ve had sitting in boxes for the past year. (Cousin in SC in the industry gifted me some Hikvision cams and I just don’t have the time or tools to run all the cat6)

Just a strong pair of vice grips to remove the springs. Nothing to replace if not broken other than the shoes. Might want to watch a couple of your-tube vids for the adjustment. It's really not that bad. Just internet research and you should be good!

 

I can't stand thieves. Food is probably the only thing a person can justify stealing. A tacoma bed mat...yeah you're a POS for stealing that.

Just did this yesterday, for the secomd time. Lol. I replaced the hardware, myself. The hardware kit is cheap and easier than replacing broken parts later!

 

After wheeling yesterday I have a tear in my left inner CV boot. I was looking at upgrading to these. Does anyone have experience with them or know where I can get one? They are on backorder through ever site I've found. https://www.offroadsolutions.com/products/high-angle-inner-cv-boot/

 

I would save your $$ and replace with an OEM kit. When you install, slide the boot up the shaft ~1” or so to keep the boot fins from rubbing(and tearing). Works like a charm.

Went to indian mountain this weekend, really nice mixture of mud and rocks out there. Has anyone been to Iron Mountain? I know they let almost every vehicle up there

 

Man I freakin hate people... like who leisurely does something like that? A fellow member donated his over to me, and I've been using it, but I'm sure you'd get more use out of it man. I appreciate the generosity, but I'm actually considering one of the bed mats that Weathertech makes (can get it from my work for cost + 10%...roughly ~$110 after tax). Not an immediate need, but definitely gonna get something for spring as I take the canoe out to Stone Mtn occasionally to drown some worms and it's nice to not have gear sliding around in the bed.
