Need some suspension advice from you experts. I'll be ordering a GFC in about a month, I've wanted one for so long, and trying to decide which route to take on suspension. I think I have it narrowed down to either Bilstein 6112/5160 or OME less expensive kit (although the BP-51 is sweet). Just unsure of the rear setup. Was originally thinking the Headstrong AAL leaving the overload in, but reading a lot more about the OME leaf pack. Front of the truck has a CBI covert bumper and I'll be adding a Warn EVO 8S to it soon. The rear of the truck will have the GFC, a homemade passenger side bed drawer setup, and possibly the Westcott tire carrier with my spare 255/85/75 ST Maxx. Meadium or heavy leaf pack? Extended brake lines? What else is needed?

    Thanks in advance.

I'd go with the heavy springs since the GFC should be permanent. I'd also get the extended brake lines for peach of mind.

a simple aal will not be enough for that rear set up. You will need a full leaf pack and a heavy duty one at that with all that on there. I would get the heavy and run it, let it settle and then if I decided I needed a medium I would just remove a leaf to make it a medium. But with the GFC, Bed slide set up, and westcott Id say you need the heavy

Would Headstrong be the best place to purchase?

Also what about some Timbren bumpstops/flip kit?

Where to purchse? Can't help you much there b/c I got my OME Heavy springs for $100 off a member in Tn.
This is what I'm going to run for bump stops with my ubolt flip kit. $20 chevy 1500 bump stops.

Yes to the flip kit and bigger bump stops. Not sure that I would go with Timbren. They are pricey. Energy Suspension makes a much cheaper option as well. It's a universal part and will require drilling a small hole to mount. Size will depend on your suspension travel.

I'm intrigued by the $20 Chevy bumps posted above.

Also can't help with where to purchase. I typically just google the part number and figure out where/how to get it the cheapest. Also, keep an eye out for 4th of July sales upcoming or already running.

    Thanks.
Pricey bumpstops don't bother me as they are a small price to pay over the whole suspension upgrade. I was looking at Wheelers (had their fronts on my Tundra) and Durobumps as well.

Thank you all for your input.

I'm running 6112s with 700 lb springs in the front, Deaver heavy duty leaf pack with air bags in the rear. Airbags, since my rear weight varies between trailers or not, camping load, etc.

I suggest Hammer Hangers for the rear springs - they make a world of difference. The rear suspension actually flexes!

4" longer brake lines will suffice, unless you go longer shocks.

I will suggest a 10S winch over the 8S. Same case/weight, different gearing. A little slower pulling, but more grunt (pulling power).

When doing a rear spring install, do you have to lower the spare to get the rear shackle bolts out or is there enough room? When I did my aal years ago I never took the spring off.

It depends if the tire is in the way or not. :p

It's been years since I had a tire under the bed, but I think there is enough room to get the bolts out. But don't quote me...

Lol, well I'll probably be doing my install soon and didn't want to have to remove my car seats to get to the spare tire tool to lower it. I'm going by my dads today and was just going to grab his if I needed it. Might as well just go ahead and grab it.

Dad life problems. If there’s an easy way to release/remove the top anchor on the car seats from the back of the taco seat I sure as heck haven’t figured it out yet.

Yes, heed the advice here and do not go the AAL route if you intend to run a tent full time. Money thrown into a pit, ask me how I know.

I don't know how much a GFC weighs, but with 6112's in the front / 5160's in the rear on Dakar Mediums I have about an inch or so of rake with a ~125lb RTT + ~25lb aluminum bed rack. If the GFC weighs more than that I'd go ahead and spring for the Dakar heavies because you don't want to be nose high when you add your camping gear in the bed. I know you're on a 3rd Gen, but feel free to read about my install experience here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...stly-modest-build.433701/page-6#post-20871877

I like my Dakars but they squeak like an SOB at the mounts anytime they get dirty, and that's running energy suspension bushings. A HEAVY dose of silicon spray on each bushing usually quiets them down between trips. Despite the casual annoyance I've never had to pull them off for servicing or anything.

I’m on 650’s up front and Dakar Heavies on the rear with similar setup, had GFC on same prior. HTH
