I have my tires mounted on the wheels but haven't messed with trying to fit them yet. Would a cab mount chop be something someone could help with on a mod day? I've never done something that involved before and I don't won't to screw it up. I have a set of the filler plates from relentless fab.

I could get my dad to make it before and then bring it down that morning and heat it up

I can't at my place but @marinemonkey is only like 20 minutes away and he can do a CMC

i was | | that close to pulling the trigger on JD Fabs LT kit when I did the refresh a couple months ago…

Decided it just wasn’t necessary/practical for what I’m doing and my plans with the truck

The JD Fab lower pivot mount is def a more realistic future mod

I say all this now - 1 year ago I said I’d never be on 35’s lol

Technically you could do a CMC with only a grinder. Welding the plates on is more cosmetics than function. I’m not a Toyota engineer though so don’t take my word for it.

    I strongly disagree.

The plates are needed for strength. This is where your cab is mounted to the frame. It is a high stress area.

You’re probabaly/potentially right in there being some structural value to the plate. Which is the reason I stated the disclaimer.

I’d question if they levels of force would be enough to compromise any integrity, but as stated previously I am not a Toyota engineer. There’s plenty that abuse their rigs far worse than me that have left it uncapped without a reported failure. At least none that I’ve come across.

I've seen guys in here complaining about doing a CMR messing with the crash structure too. I know ive seen a picture of a cheaper kit welded on to the frame that broke the and had to be patched. I got to get the motivation to weld on my DRT kit one day.

In certain types of impacts, the tire can be shoved back - right into the body mount. A weak mount could be ripped off - then, the cab is unsupported, and all kinds of nastiness could happen.

Makes total sense. My tiny brain has difficulty processing how that scenario of impact would play out differently if the cab mount were uncapped. Or potentially capped but with a less than Toyota standard level weld :bananadead:

I went from stock, torsion bar lift, ifs 4 in lift to SAS on my old 4runner all in a 5 year period. Wish I would have just done the old buy once cry once. Saved alot of money in stuff I didn't need to start.

I stopped quoting. Technically, we can do the chop any time any where.

While there are people who don't do the filler plates, it is certainly a good idea to do it.

I'd say fit the tires, if needed, cut the mount, then go get it filled. I bet Cory wouldn't charge as much if everything was prepped and ready for the new plates to be welded on. (but I'm not him, so I can't say for certain.)

I'm gonna test fit tires tomorrow. I may not need the cmc but I assume I will. It's 285 75 16 on -25 offset wheels

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I can easily say the Cory would prefer to do it all. The cut makes the difference on how much welding and proper fitment.
For what Cory charges it’s a steal, he makes the whole thing better than factory.

the filler plate adds to the strength, but more over helps protect the area around the body mount bolt. This is important. That being said my main wheeler the ‘07 FJC on 35s doesn’t have filler plates. Should I do it, yes, is it top on my list. No.

If it were my taco, I would have a Cory do it, but I am looking at relocating the whole mount itself. 35s can get into things depending the tire width and rim offset.

I have this tire size currently on my taco, no cmc. However I have oem wheels and this makes a difference.
My lift is a 3.5” Fox Front, Deaver Stage 3 in the rear.

Also, the CMC plates keeps all the crap out of around a major bolt location. Living up here seeing a good bit of snow and that shit they put on the roads to de-ice it. I am going to put a plate on the FJC. I don’t won’t it to rot cause I was lazy.
