Hey man, I don't live in GA but the photo in your post got my attention from the home page. Just wanted to let you know that you can save another $50 on the skids with code "CASCADECASEY10" .. I purchased mine today and used this code and it worked. They also come with free shipping if youd didn't know already.. They should suit my needs perfectly so I couldn't pass up a $450 set of skids!

    Cheers

Nice!! And thank you for letting me know that! It is a crazy good deal. Cheaper than just the trd pro skid alone.

the reason I recommended the steel and something that covers everything is because you stated that that you have already damaged your driveshaft. Aluminum skids are great for weight savings but if you beat them on rocks they won't last longan they do not slide on rocks as well as steel. They also become more of a wear item and will need to be replaced again if you beat on them.

Yeah that makes a lot of sense to me too. I'm just trying to balance weight, cost, and dependability. So I'll wait on purchasing for now.

Do they offer a trans skid that you can add later? I would absolutely JUMP on that deal. I really have not noticed an impact to my mileage by going aluminum over steel skids.

New M1 Monotube coilovers from Rough Country went on the truck yesterday. The N3 rear shocks were a BITCH. Almost as if the bushing at the bottom mounting point was incorrect. It was way wider than the base. Had to shave it down in order to get the shock into the ear.

Anyone on here good at fiberglass repair?

I got a smoking deal on a Bronco Hard top with a small crack in one of the pieces. These are fiberglass. My goal is to repair and then have it LineX'd.

These are going for about $8K even though the are a $695 option because they are constrained + you cannot order them from Ford yet as an accessory.

So you mean the steel and aluminum get about the same mpgs? No ironman doesn't have a transfer case skid at all.

Are you sure that is fiberglass? It looks like a type of plastic to me.

All the fiberglass I am familiar with doesn't break so clean (no fibers exposed), nor does it bend with such a short radius.

You might be right. After some googling to looks like its thermo-molded plastic, so any old body buy should be able to fix fix like a bumper.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!

If you look at the crack, all that residue is from a piece of flex tape lol

All I'm saying is that I didn't notice a difference. I also went from just an IFS skid to a trio....so take that for what its worth.

I'll chime in on the aluminum vs steel skid plate conversation. I originally went with aluminum thinking I'll save on weight and gas. I paid more them and ended buying twice when I had to switch my transfer and transmission skids to steel, bc the aluminum ones were bent and beaten to the point of no return. I didn't see a change in mpg after switching the two to steel. to sum up my experience is to say, don't by aluminum skids.

I keep a roll in my basement. good for short term patches. weeks after moving into our current home, the pressure tank on our well blew out towards the bottom. zero water pressure in the house on a Sunday during the winter time. Flex seal patched it for several weeks till it happened again and we could replace the tank. (when the original patch failed, I tried with no luck to patch again with flex seal but it was pass that point, lol)

I can’t directly compare alu vs steel skids in either use or DD. Pure opinion wise but I think the only real justification for aluminum would be weight savings….If and only if your build is already bordering on the bloated over GVW level, and your uses are for the gram or other over-broing duties.

Otherwise it seems like throwing away money to not go steel. The weight difference, even at full trio protection, is going to be no more than the weight of an extra passenger that has politely spread their weight evenly under your truck.

You really shouldn't see any negative effect on mpgs from skid plates, steel or aluminum. They aren't rotating weight, they create no additional drag and may even lower your overall drag by smoothing out the underside of the truck, and they weigh as much or less than 1 additional passenger.

The only benefit to aluminum is lower maintenance not worrying about rust, and they are lighter so easier to install and remove or to keep vehicle weight a little lower.
