Yeah... I only landed this place because the people left for the winter. So discount for watching their fully furnished home basically.

A buddy and I started the GA traverse yesterday from the East (SC) side. Started very early in the morning with the goal of making it to the start of the Cohutta and Big Frog loop to camp.

Made it to the west side start of the loop only to find a swarm of: police, ambulance, EMS, search and rescue, crime scene investigators, the game warden, and homeland security. They had essentially blocked both sides to the loop. Obviously did not want to get in the way or distract, so we just turned around.

Can’t find anything about it online. Anyone know what the hell happened?

Glad to see another member taking on the traverse! Brace yourself the the Armuchee section, it can get a little monotonous.

Was the commotion going on at West Cowpen or Jacks Creek?

Hmmm where is the Armuchee section?

We ran it all the way from the start on the east side to the start of the Cohutta loop. So we knocked out probably 60ish percent and loved it! I had rain the east side to Helen before so I was familiar with some of it. Luckily Coleman River road was open this time so that was fun - had to chop up some trees but it was definitely the most un-broken in section we have done. Dicks Creek and Tray mountain have been closed since I started making trips so I haven’t hit those yet.

The commotion was right at the eastern side of the loop where I circled below:

The Armuchee section is near John’s MTN WMA. Essentially no scenic views with switch back after switch back. It was the only section of the Traverse we couldn’t get through fast enough. We did it strictly to say we completed it. D728907F-CB64-49E1-8EA8-169E8B5933B1.jpg

Did you access Coleman River via Abe Rd? It was blocked with an uncountable amount of trees when I went.

Ahhh looks like that section is west of Cohutta, I have not been that far.

Yes we did - Patterson to Abe to Coleman. Abe through Coleman was closed last time I came through. There were a ton of downed trees this time too. Some of them half- cleared

A hiking duo went missing in the Cohutta. They split up on purpose and only one made it out and when the realized the other was still missing they called in the calvary looking for him. Sounds like as of today he’s been found, though. But that’s probably what you were seeing.

Wow, glad they found him! He had quite the search party looking for him. People from all kinds of agencies.

How is the hiking up there? Besides getting to the start and turning around, I haven’t been in there yet

They are very....square. The kickout seems to stick out a little far and starts a little soon. Overall, I'm very impressed. Props to you for tackling that!

Awesome! Probably prefer the drive, but no where near in a place to do anything like that anytime soon. One day...

    Whatcha doing?

Not sure, got them from a guy for $150. They were in rough shape so had them powdercoated, pretty beefy though they have 4 legs on each side.

Whoa if I didn't recognize your truck I would've thought that came from a travel magazine. The opportunity to house sit in Alaska, where you're considering making it you're home... too good to pass up. Is this the end of your videos for the time being or are we going to see more of this place?
