I've never really done an OHV park. What is the entry cost and do you need an OHV tag in GA?

I kind of figured I would head north and hike the High Shoals trail to Blue Hole Falls and High Shoals Falls. Figured I'd see if I could find a good trail while I was up there. Someone told me that Tray Mt. Rd. is back open. I guess I'll find out. Any and all are welcome to join.

Ok, so it turns out that I added the event to my calendar, which explains why it didn't show up.

But now, I can't figure out how to add an event to that calendar. ....and I'm a tech guy. Can I blame the beer?

Edit: ok, so I don't think it's the beer. I looked at the settings on the calendar and it doesn't look like I can add events. I have added it to the OP though.

When I look at the Calendar in the thread, I see a little “+” symbol in the bottom right corner.
I hit that, it opens the Google Calendar.
I then can hit the “Create” button on the top left to create a new event.

If your trying to add an Event to the Calendar then...
I will need to add your email to a Share List for that Calendar.
I made a gmail account called teqgeorgia, just to post up.
You can do the same and give me that email.
I don’t recommend you using anything connected to personal accts.

So there's a small creek crossing at the entrance/start of Indian Grave Gap Rd.

    huS8ApViMRCWs9NKH4WWnmhkvvm4Ja9gU2JQUnjk_be80f064a7c58400b2d9e55d6c44d49186cbca26.jpg

Cars were stopping just short of it and people were walking across. There was a 4Runner behind me and we both went through without hesitation. On the trail, I commented to him that it felt good to go through the water when others were stopping short. I noticed that there were some cars at the trailhead, but I figured they must have come in the other way.

The hike itself was beautiful. There was one little section where the bridge was broken, but looks like someone took the time to make a "trail fix."
    AZ-LuvdRyiYUzqur8O4XNZlDaRCjdGl_JlBqGeoD_3024983aaa354e95a5e21b145334e0974c41307e.jpg

The skinny tree on the right was strong enough to support my 220#s with little flexing. I took my time getting to the falls, so no idea how long it took me. I also took my time at each fall to "take it all in." It took me about 30 minutes to make the hike back.

I remember thinking on my way down, "all these folks are either old or chunky and WAY out of breath." Followed by 'I doubt I will be out of breath on the way back up." On the actual way back out, I followed another couple up a steeper "shortcut" that looked pretty well used and not that steep when heading down the trail. That didn't help the situation, as I was breathing as if I had just run a marathon by the time I got back to the trailhead. Perhaps I am either chunkier or older than I realize (probably both!). Either way, it's been a while since I went on a hike and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

If going with a group of friends, wife/husband or girl/boyfriend then I say go for it! I wouldn't try to do it as a family with small kids because of the broken bridge. The majority of the trail is not stroller friendly, so don't even bother trying. There was a section right after the broken bridge (the first bridge assuming they fix it at some point) where folks were camped along the water and had probably 6-10 hammocks setup.

I took a moment to catch my breath and drink some water when I got back to the truck. - Oh, that reminds me, take some water with you! Especially if it is hot outside. I think it was about 70 degrees when I went. - While sitting there, I saw a Scion TC pull up and about 5 college kids get out. I asked if he drove through the creek and he smiled and said "Hell yeah" triumphantly. I had figured he came in the other side and turned around when he got to the water. After looking at the map, my goal to find Tray Mountain Road, I took off the way I came in....which turned out to be the wrong way. So I essentially just drove through the water 2 more times. I told myself that was the saving grace for going the wrong way.

Still convinced that all the cars at the trailhead had come in the other direction, I took the long way out of Indian Grave Gap Rd. Seriously...all the cars....

That really deflated my balloon...you know, the lifted 4x4 Tacoma with the rear diff breather mod balloon.

....I'll be sure to get a snorkel for the next time... :boink:

Anyway, while Tray Mountain Road had some dips and bumps, there was nothing technical about it. I didn't do the road in it's entirety. Just the section from Indian Grave back out to 75.

    Oh look, a map :D
(I tried to embed, but had to settle for just the link)
    https://goo.gl/maps/1ifBuCuJpCn

Why bother putting a map together? All you did was drive 2 roads and go on a hike. Good question. I saw several places to camp along both roads. After the High Shoals trailhead, the next 2 spots are my best guess as to the first "good" campsite I saw. This was also the most technical section that I drove. There was a fire ring and room for probably 7-10 trucks. Trees to hang hammocks along the creek. This is on the way back out/up from that campsite.

    0WJbzU9zJDCwQp2R0dhKh63TN4dyNsaRRUXb-PiB_4bfb34e25cf73d7b5e143500fc43920b78e35639.jpg

The next two spots would be for smaller groups. Maybe 2-5 trucks.

Next time I go, I will plan to bring a roll of trash bags and some gloves. The potential camp spot I marked that is furthest south on the map had a dump site. I was amazed/disgusted at how much trash has just been thrown in there. I'm guessing at least 3-4 trashbags full. The plus side is that it was mostly contained, but still. Whoever has been there clearly doesn't know about Tread Lightly. That's also the site closest to the highway and along Tray Mountain Rd, so I'm guessing you would expect to see a decent amount of traffic go by. The first site I marked is hands down the best option. Unless I find a better spot, that's where I'm going to plan to go next time I go camping.

Also, the only time I used 4wd was to back into my parking space at the trailhead. The whole thing was definitely 2wd friendly. It might be different wet, but none of it required a lift/skids/locker/4wd/etc. Pretty sure a stock Subaru would do just fine.

Very likely you. I passed a cement TRD Pro and another guy in a grey 3rd gen. The other guy stopped me to ask about my ARB bumper.
