Game Of Thrones

I've heard lots of gushing from some GoT superfans that I know about this last episode, but I don't see how it can be anything other than "okay". It was clearly a bottle episode. Breaking Bad fans remember the episode where Walt tried to get the fly out of his lab. Same idea. There is obviously a huge, expensive episode coming up, so they took one with very few set changes, easy-to-shoot scenes, and minimal expensive special effects. Not that an episode needs tons of fighting and dragons to be good, mind you, but all of the "loose ends" that were tied up here were done really briefly. It was to the benefit of the series as a whole, but on its own, I didn't think this episode was anything to write home about.

Spoiler: Season 8, Episode 2 Specific Stuff

Dany and Sansa discussing their relationship was just a minute or two, before being interrupted. Gendry and Arrya's relationship (relationship between a Baratheon bastard and a Stark) was just them humping quickly with not development. Jon revealing to Dany that he's her nephew was a quick bombshell dropped right before they have to go fight with no chance at any development. This was an episode meant to save the budget for the big, badass war episodes and it just kind of glossed over some storylines that have some interest in favor of 18 different reminders that the Lannisters used to fight against the Starks and now they're fighting to defend their home. My favorite part was Bran revealing how he could be used to lure the Night King. I wanted some more details, but look forward to seeing how that strategy plays out.

I liked the ending, though. Podrick singing a fairly somber song right as they realize that shit is about to go down. Looking forward to this season finally hitting its stride. Next week, I suppose.

 

Last nights episode was really disturbing. It was like watching your daughter lose her virginity.

 

Go back and listen to the lyrics of Podrick’s song (it is also the same song played over the closing credits) or google the meaning. It was foreshadowing for what is to come, after the war with the night king...

GOT has been one of my most favorite series I have ever watched. Falls in line with Sons of Anarchy in my opinion. I have enjoyed it immensely, but the hardest part is the full YEAR or longer wait between seasons. SHESH guys! And knowing that this is the last season, and that it will only have SIX episodes? NOOOOO!!!! hahaha. Who here thinks that by next year HBO will come up with a spin-off with one of the other characters?

 

Would love spin-offs. I was just telling that to a friend the other day.

I saw HBO is doing a Deadwood movie. I loved that series. Wish they'd bring that one back.
