They were the only threat, every other war is just bickering over power... over and over they had main characters saying “the only war that matters” “the Great War”, etc...

 

not discounting what the writers did, love the show. Just having fun thinking of different plot twists that could have been or still could be.

 

Thoros, Melissandre, Bran, Jon, Meera, Jojen, Beric...al of their storylines were about the white walkers...heck even the reason all of the wildlings were fleeing south was because of the white walkers.

 

I feel like Jon was brought back to serve a purpose by the Lord of Light.

He helped defeat the army of the dead and has served his purpose. Interested to see what happens with him. Gandalf vibes.

 

By that logic that means the ghost librarian in Ghostbusters should've been the main antagonist of that movie, not Gozer the Gozerian.

During the first season more than just Cersei and the Walkers were showing themselves to be villains. Even if you narrow it down to only those two threats, one will have to be neutralized before the other. If it were the other way around, people would still be bitching about that decision. I'm not excusing the shoddy writing in the past few seasons. Just saying that this series has gone against the norms at every turn, so why should we expect anything different now? Assuming that's what was expected.

 

The tag line of the show has always been ‘winter is coming’ and the long night lasted one night without any explanation of why the night king is coming other than to erase history, which is completely unfulfilling considering that goon has supposedly been waiting for the right moment for hundreds of years. Your analogy flat fails.

The writers chose to truncate the last two seasons, not HBO. Combine that with a complete heel turn on the prior pacing of the show, and you’ve got this mess. They’re packing too much in too fast after such an elaborate buildup.

Episode 5 has been by far the best episode. Its too bad everything before it was a runaway train to get to that episode.

 

Never said that meant the night king should be the main antagonist.

Just wanted to point that out because the other member said that the night king was not introduced until midway through the series. And thus white walkers were not man threat.

 

For the soldiers, yes, but killing women and children? Not cool.

 

The show is called “Game of Thrones” so it makes sense that it will end with someone actually winning “the game” and being on the throne. Not sure what throne since KL is burned to ash...

And the heel turn isn’t that surprising. Her flip to the mad queen has been building since we first met her.

 

Well the whole show is based off of the series “A song of Ice and Fire”

Game of thrones is only the name of the first book, and I guess that’s the name they stuck with for the show.

 

Actually there have been many taglines. "Winter is Coming" is only one of them. The Night King's purpose was explained at the time his origin was revealed. He was created to fight men on behalf of the Children. Apparently he never stopped, or went rogue for whatever reason. Maybe it had something to do with magic twisting his mind. Does his purpose really have to be more than that? I mean he was basically like Ice Terminator.

Really we can just blame the writers. It seems they gave false expectations, considering the Night King doesn't exist in the books. To date, a leader for the Others (what the White Walkers are called in the books) has never been identified or even mentioned. I mean I certainly blame the writers for stripping away the layers and complexity that GRRM built and was followed in the first several seasons, and dumbing things down to the most basic level. Then taking what should be AT LEAST 4 seasons worth of material and packing it into 2, and a short 2 at that! So yeah, I enjoy the show for what it is, but the writers have definitely gotten lazy.

Also, I thought my analogy was pretty good, given the one line argument. And a nice way to throw some humor into these discussions. Hell, I still laugh at Gozer the Gozerian! It's like saying Paul the Paulinian or Susan the Susonian. Maybe we should start a thread on how we can Gozer-fy our names!

 

Ice = jon snow. Fire = Dany.

Allegedly. Jon Snow is technically both.

The ending is where you could see it going, but it’s perfectly fair to be disappointed with the writing these past two seasons.

Still better than Dexter.

 

So much for my hopes that Jon was going to just live happily ever after banging his aunt.

 

Probably would have been more bang,bang scenes if he hadn't married Ygrette (Rose) IRL

 

These were all the same people screaming for Ned Starks head in season 1 though.

 

I like this, but I'd elaborate some more.... I'd say Dani is confronted by Jon, but never takes the thrown (her never actually taking the thrown is prophecy/or how she dreamt it, i think right?)... She gets upset at Jon, has Drogon burn him, Arya sees this and gets even more upset and kills Dany, Grey Worm freaks out and kills Arya, Jon walks out of the fire and sees Grey Worm kill Arya and goes after him, Jon wins



... Then Bronn shoots Jon with the cross bow and sits on the Iron Throne as justice for all of the castles he was promised and never given.

 

What throne? She burned that shit to the ground.
