That finale was good by the standard that season 8 set for itself. Which wasn't that high.

But it did absolutely zero justice to the last several years.

Jon's story ends like that??? Back at the frickin Wall. What. The. Fuck.
He was murdered and resurrected for that. He must be thinking he never really got brought back to life and this is actually hell. And worse yet they made it look like he was leaving it all behind to become a Wildling there at the end.

I still think the main focus of the rest of the story should've been the fight against the Night King and the undead. Hypothetically if they were to remake the final season that's where I'd want to see it go. Maybe the books will take it in that direction

What disappointed me with this season was how quickly the whole night king/winter is coming theme was basically wrapped up in one episode. The battle between the living and dead was building for several seasons and it came down to one fight. I really expected more in that area.

Yeah when that happened I knew not to expect much from the last few episodes. They really sold the story that the war of kings 'means nothing' and the real threat was beyond the wall. That really should have been the focus of the story after putting so much heavy emphasis on it for the past few seasons.

Ah well, at least Drogon didn't die. I was afraid of that happening.

Guess winter is over now that the night king is dead. You can see a green plant coming out of the ground when all the wildlings are walking out of the gate.

Wasn’t a horrible episode, but also got done with it and could care less about the show. Just kind of a blah, wrap up 15 story lines in one episode feeling. It was obvious they had way too much to cover in 1 season and sure the episodes were almost movie length but it they still felt rushed.

I think Californication did it best. They wrote every season finale as the series finale because they never knew if there would be another season.

Me either. But they slipped it in a very generic, and thus smooth, way. The episode itself was on one level mundane, but another profound (its clear by the end Hank and Bobby will find their way together, even if some wrinkles remain to be ironed out in some future after the finale). And then it just ended as it should: a simple cookout at the Hill's, somewhere out under the rolling hills of the republic.

Yeah, for all of his fierce fighting and severe stink eye looks, he was something of a wet turd in the end. He was right to sail away: he was too guileless for the crowd that remained in Westeros.

I'm moving on to this one:

Its quite good, and actually quasi-historic (it is set in Dark Ages England during the time of the great heathen army)

There were some really good scenes and nice visuals in the finale. The scene when Dany is walking towards the assembled men to give her speech, and Drogon spreading wings to take off, gave a pretty awesome visual still of Dany with dragon wings. That was well done. I hated how she died, but the scene following with Drogon was well done. The nudging and care for his mother, melting the Iron Throne, and gently picking her up and flying away. I thought that was great. I was hoping for a final scene where he lands with Dany somewhere in Essos. Valarya would have been cool.

Bran the Broken being king... meh. That's not exciting. As much as I didn't like Sansa, I would have prefered she were made queen. She has just as interesting story to be told with her whole arc. This would have kept the North as part of the Seven kingdoms and since it was her, they probably wouldn't have pushed the independance issue.

I think Jon is really going north of the Wall to live free. He may end up as king of the Wildings like Mance Rayder was, even though he wasn't really a king as all Wildings are free folk. Jon and Ghost reuniting was okay. The damage to Jon's character was already done for me ultimately, so I really couldn't care to much about the way his arc ended.

So is it real that Arya is getting a spin off? Would be funny if she sails west to find out the world is round and she is on the east coast of Essos, where she eventually stumbles on to Valarya and finds a not so dead Dany actually rebuilding the original Targaryan land.
