I don't think people are complaining about the main points of how the things ended for the show, it's about how they got there. The writers seem to take the most obvious, lazy path to get there. Entirely predictable, generic, with no twists, zero tension & conflict. It felt like the deaths of Cersei, Jamie & Dany were wastes of time. Not befitting the characters. It's almost like they gave the main plot points to a bunch of 11 year olds & told them to write & direct the last 3 episodes. This season peaked at the 3rd episode. The last 3 were a waste of time. They were definitely mailing it in.

I don't think there's an overwhelming feeling of bandwagon hate going on, I think people are legitimately disappointed for good reason with the past couple of seasons. They started doing this in season 7 when characters began moving all over the map like they were walking through portals. It became less about the journey to get somewhere and the story along the way.

I get that now with the way it ended, there's room for spin-offs, movies, TV game shows whatever. But when this show started what made it so good was that it didn't follow all the mainstream rules of television. There was a very distinct and obvious point where you could tell the show runners just wanted to get it over with, and I think that has fans rightfully upset.

This is what I think is happening. People got a certain idea or theory on what they think should have happened, and when it didn't play out that way, they just hop on the hate wagon. I think its a lot of parroting other people's hate. It seems everyone thinks they are a master screenwriter and storyteller, and that they could have made the show so much better. Just enjoy the show for what it was. Obviously some criticism is warranted, but not this level.

Exactly. I think a major contributor was that there was such a big gap between season 7 and 8. That gave people all the time in the world to come up with their own theories. Obviously this is how the books are going to end, but the journey will be much more thorough.

I agree with this in some part. I think if the last two season had been written the way the first few were, like if season 7-8 were stretched into 4 seasons, it would have become too boring and overly complicated. I'm glad they kind sped up the pacing. It could have very easily become a case of feeling like they dragging things out if they extended it that long. I agree that season 8 should have been a little longer, maybe a 10 episode season, with the same episode lengths. But stretching it into 2 extra seasons would have been a bit much in my opinion. Leave all that extra content for the books.

Yea I'd love to read a summary of the story (since I don't really have the time to commit the entire series of books) once the last two books are released, and see how much more fleshed out things can be. but for a TV show, I think it would have been too much.

I don’t have an issue with the ending, I have an issue with the lack of story leading to it. There’s so much left out for it to make any logical sense.

I read it as Bran knowing the future, and even though he doesn’t want it, he knew it was best. Much like him forcing Tyrion to be hand, he didn’t want it, but it’s fate.

There is no Night’s Watch, at least it wasn’t established that they returned to guard the wall because the free folk had already all come south / died from the army of the dead. Jon joined them and went north of the wall. He’s not part of the watch, and Bran knew he was releasing him to be free north of the wall. No one else in Westeros will know the difference.

Been saving this for a few weeks. Opened it up about 3-4 minutes before 9:00 pm EST last night. Waited till the show started to take a pour. 2019's season of GOT and this 2019-01 Booker's have a lot in common. I had high expectations for both but neither delivered. GOT rushed after years of character build up. And Booker's hot with little flavor compared to last yeas batches.

Luckily I just started season 1 of Westworld (about 5 episodes in), I think I've found something new to get into. Definitely no replacement for GoT (2 totally different themes) but it's really good so far.

Also if you're into shows like Sons of Anarchy with a Point Break vibe then I highly suggest Animal Kingdom on TNT (or Prime). Also Peaky Blinders

Just a bummer to see Dany's story end in tragedy after all she went through to get there and the good she did in Essos. Game of Thrones was never meant to be a happy story though. Time to read the books and hope GRRM finishes the last 2 before I die

Yep. Wife and I liked season 1. Watched 2-3 of season 2 and flew the coop. Too many other good shows to waste our limited time watching something that confusing and badly written.

Exactly this. Sure, there are a few with other ideas of what they would have liked to see, but the vast, vast majority of the criticism revolves around the lack of buildup and context. Jon went from not wanting to bend the knee to Dany, to banging her, to vowing his loyalty, to finding out he was her nephew, to being conflicted about her, to killing her all in like 7 episodes. Or Dany going from leading the siege on King's Landing as a liberator, to turning in the Mad Queen, to taking over the Iron Throne, to dead in about 30 minutes of screen time. That isn't remotely close to the masterful way the show developed stories in the first handful of seasons. THAT is where the criticism for the last season/finale comes from. Major bullet points of the finale? Well enough.

Noticing that the pacing, character/plot development, buildup, etc. were drastically different from earlier seasons doesn't require one to be a master screenwriter. It is exactly what fans could/should notice. Nearly all of the things that I thought made seasons 1-4 absolutely GREAT were absent in season 8 - and I'm no screenwriter, just a dolt with an HBO Now log-in ;).

Generally speaking, the reviews are along those lines. It works for me, though, so if you want to ship the remaining bit ;).

I kid, though. It is a fairly unique Booker's batch. Certainly won't be in everyone's wheelhouse.

sorry, maybe you'll love it, some do I know...but it's very different from season 1 just a heads up.
