6000k HID's, AUX Reverse Lights, 3" Rough Country Suspension Lift, Pioneer AVH-P4200 Double Din, Underglow and footwell Lights, Camo Seat Covers, Duralast Tool Box, Blacked Out Badges, Grill, Front Emblem, Midland CB Radio, Amber Strobes, POWER REAR WINDOW, cup holder LED's, Firestik 3' in bed, console divider, Ultragauge.
So I finally had a good idea of what to use the useless garage door opener holder since toyota is too cheap to throw in the temp and compass like the rest of the trucks.

I plan on mounting two 12v sockets in it, then a bank of around 5 aux switches.

Why would you want two 12v sockets above your head like that, some of you may be wondering? Much like many of you, I own things like GPS units and radar detectors that I like to mount high. As well as an emergency led strobe system on my right visor. All of which need to be plugged in, or hardwired. I decided this would be perfect, then I am able to coil up the wires and plug the units in up high and out of the way, only when I need them, and be able to leave my emergency light hooked up. And I will also have aux switches for whatever I need them for (I have too many different lights).

Heres a really crappy scientifical paint mock up

One question I have, Is there some kind of aftermarket piece I can buy that will fit over this opening that doesn't have the button in the middle for the garage door opener?

I will use this thread to show my progress and the finished product. Hopefuly.

Good idea what if I just epoxy it flat or overlay a thin layer of abs plastic sheet?

That could work... It would be nice if it was totally flat like the sunglass holder but I might have to modify the whole thing.

Pre 2012 V6 models have them mounted in the spot in my picture.

Yeah I dont either, and you cant put anything in there without it falling out the second you open it. Figured this could be a great use for it.

Wonder if I can get a 2012 mirror and use in place of the display in my 2010, I wear bi-focals and can't focus unless I tilt my head way back to look out the bottom of my glasses.

Too many to list, check out my build!
We got sunglasses holders that are pretty much useless in the 2010's. That just means its a great spot to put aux switches :D
