I thought it was just me ...

 

A few Improved Meyer lemons, Meyer lemons and Jalapeno peppers from the garden.

 

Currently just broccoli. We were growing probably 30 small white pumpkins for table decorations at our wedding and we also had some corn.

I’m also saving up ammo cans to build a vertical herb garden ammo can planter in the spring. We’re also removing a lot of Holley and yew bushes to replace with rosemary in the spring. I’m excited.

Picked up a 2nd, slightly smaller tent. And more lights. I seriously have a light fetish, flashlights, grow lights, flood lights, truck lights. All the lights! One to start in, one to finish. Hoping to get a bit more of a rotation going now that I seemed to have finally turned the corner on gardening.

Oldest are coming along very well at this point. Getting around the point where they should really start filling out and getting big over the next few weeks. 2ft tall, green n bushy!!

2 Biggest Changes....
-Ceased Distilled water usage
-Reassessed and repositioned air circulation methods. Wind burn is a thing apparently.

I also recently moved my lights to the top of my tents and plan to leave them there. No more moving lights up and down. I did this in my older 2's tent and they shot up about 5/6 inches in a week. Really "opened" them up, if it makes sense. I was looking at a lot of pics of commercial outfits, and all seemed to have their LED's a decent bit above their grows.

I don't buy many seeds, mostly grow heirloom stuff and save my own seeds. Still need a few now and then. The only thing I really needed this year was the onion seeds. I like to try something new every year. This year's new thing is going to be Swiss Chard.

Decided to try a new variety of corn. I've planted Ambrosia exclusively for the last five or six years, and it usually does real well. This Espresso looks like it might be good. Will plant one row of it, but the rest will still be Ambrosia.

I've never had any luck growing melons. Found cantaloupe and watermelon varieties that look like they will be worth trying melons again.

Anyone else already thinking about next year's garden?

 

Placed my initial seed order last weekend. Will order a few more things over the next month or two from a few other places. I start most of my own plants from seed indoors starting in February and March. Good luck with your garden next year. It will be time to plant before we know it.

 

Yea real soon for some things. I plant onions, in seed trays, February 1st. I don't buy any plants, start all mine inside, or direct seed. I put the seed trays out in the greenhouse during the day if it's sunny. Even if it's sub zero outside, it will be fairly warm in the greenhouse, but only if it's sunny. I used to keep them in the house under grow lights, but that was a pain, and they really didn't grow very well. It's pretty easy to take them out and bring them in each day. If it's cloudy, I just leave them inside without any extra light and they do just fine.

Are you going to grow anything new, or exciting this year?

 

Nothing real exciting. The usual tomatoes and peppers (a few varieties of each), sometimes I will start cucumbers and melons inside but have found they do better for me just direct sowing. I usually start petunias and sometimes a couple other flowers. I did onions from seed one year but find it easier to just order the starts and plant them out then grow them from seed myself. I start enough from seed because I enjoy it, I give a lot away. Family and friends are happy about that. Probably started close to 100 tomato plants and 75-80 pepper plants last year plus a bunch of other stuff. I see your from Wyoming. My wife is from Montana and I have started stuff for her parents the last couple years. Have to wait several weeks before I start their plants from seed compared to mine do to the difference in growing season. I don't use special grow lights just use regular florescent shop lights and has worked ok the last several years. Here is a few pics from last year. I have 6 shelving units with 3 to 4 shelves each that I use to start seeds on. Might do a high tunnel or greenhouse one of these days but have an extra room in the house that works for now.

 

Wow, six shelving units full of starts! I just do enough for myself, with just a little extra in case some die, that I give away.

Yea, I can see that happening. My boss already asked if she could get a couple of tomato plants again next year. One of those things that probably grows at a geometric rate.

 

If seeds are the topic, I also bought some recently too! Great White Shark (5 beans) & The Doctor (3 beans).

I think this is about as much of my garden as I can probably share openly in the thread.....

Camping is in tents, this garden is in tents as well. Lolz. I'm an idiot.

 

Just moved into our house this past March, and the lawn is garbage, so we are dedicating a good portion of our front yard to a garden. The wife put in our dead order yesterday. Should start receiving seeds in the next week and I can start them, going to dedicate a portion of our enclosed “patio” which is currently storage to the seeds

 

I'm trying to start some purple bamboo seeds in a box. The box is normally closed and it keeps it just warm enough in the cold garage.

Be warned that if you plant bamboo in your yard that it will grow like crazy and getting rid of it will be a nightmare. Whoever landscaped my yard previously planted what I can only assume were a couple small bamboo plants that have now expanded to 4 very large outcroppings which are choking out and killing the rhododendrons that were near them and starting to threaten a cherry tree. I tried cutting one section down and digging by hand but there is no way that is happening, I've already resigned myself to the fact that a small retaining wall is coming down and an excavator is coming in to dig it out and save my tree/get rid of the 15ft diameter headache because the one rhodie left is already a goner with the bamboo surrounding it.

In the right location I think bamboo looks good but I would pour a concrete box around where I was going to plant it to keep it contained because the roots just run in every direction.
