Was going to get mine going today, but we now have a frost warning tonight. I guess it’ll have to be later this week.

Compost and mulch run this weekend. We had an absolute downpour (3.2 inches, according to my rain gauge) Friday night, and I picked up my load on Saturday morning. I rented a 16 foot, 16k GVW trailer and had planned on 8 yards, but the tires were started to bulge at 6 so I cut it off. Truck handled it fine, but it was definitely pushing the weight limits.

Also did another home invasion on the bees; after two weeks worth of work they've built a LOT of new comb; They've got the middle 5 frames completely combed on both sides, have completed the inner sides on the next two, and are starting work on the outer sides.

The queen (green dot) apparently is laying like crazy, too, and they've started filling some cells with honey and pollen. One of the supers is almost all honey already.

We had frost here last night too. Fortunately, the plants are all still in the cold frames

We have frost in late May most years. Occasionally even the first week in June. I usually wait until June 1 before putting tender stuff out, but even then I check the forecast first. I have spinach, lettuce, kale, beets, chard, carrots and potatoes up, and it got down to 26 last night. None of that stuff will mind.

I did transplant my onion and leek starts to the garden a couple of weeks ago. They don't mind the cold, but the forecast is calling for several inches of snow over the next couple of days. They will survive an inch or so, but more than that will kill them. I started twice as many as I needed and the other half are still in pots safely in the greenhouse. If the ones I put out die, I will simply replant. If not, I will give away the extras. It's nice to have backups.

A bunch of mine is already planted, all stuff that likes cold. spinach, lettuce, kale, potatoes, beets, carrots, chard, garlic, onions, and leeks. Most of it is just peaking up, and should be fine. I was a little worried about the onions and leeks. They were started inside from seeds back in February. I transplanted them out to the garden on April 20. In past years when we got that much snow on top of them it smashed them down and killed them. Just checked on them, and they look OK. Even if they had been killed I'd be OK. I always start twice as many seeds as I need. If the first round of transplants survive I give the extras away.
