Move indoors. But I live in the bay area, never really below 40*.

Yea, but peppers like lots of hot weather, and just as important, long days. I know down south the days don’t get that much shorter in the winter, but they do get shorter.

Im not too experienced but I thought that if you had habaneros close by it would make the jalapenos more spicy...but someone here corrected me, they will cross pollinate but next years seeds. :notsure: I was always told less water, hotter peppers. but last couple years it was just certain plants that were hotter. even with the same watering. so I dont know for certain, Lowes/home depot also has some labeled MILD jalapeno plants so you have to watch out for them!

Keeping the garden green. Sprinklers. The back yard bank of valves started leaking pretty bad and of course it was just before the shutoff valve. Also when the landscapers redid the back yard they didn't continue to the far side front yard.

I asked our gardeners how much it would be to do the job and they said $700. F that, I will fix it myself.

Before the front and back yards were renovated I put shutoff valves and each bank of valves so I could shut off the sprinklers without shutting down the whole house. In the front bank I bought a large cover before they cemented it all in.

It looks like someone was asleep at the wheel that day. I made them figure out how to get to it and turn on the water. Luckily it is still accessible.

Now to the back. I had to do a lot of digging and remove the back manifold and start over. It took a few trips to Lowes to get all the right parts. I also put in a few couplers to make it easier in the future if it happens again.

Pat myself on the back. It all fits with no leaks. The 18" steel rod it there to stabilize the faucet (it was also leaking).

I added a couple valves up front as well.

That is correct, cross pollination will not effect this years crop. If they do cross pollinate, and you plant seeds you save from them next year, you will get hybrids.

I planted a ghost pepper last year and will again this year. Vine ripening is effective. Had them in. Five gallon pail then . This time in a 15 gallon grow bag. Looking forward to better root health and much bigger yield

A few years back, I accidentally bought a full flat of jalapeño plants, and didn’t realize it until they started to produce. I’m not a huge fan of them, so I started asking friends if they wanted any. I gave a gallon zip lock bag to two guys at work. Later asked them how they were. One guy said not hot at all, and the other guy said the hottest he’s ever had. Gave some to another friend, some hot some not. My boss was complaining his weren’t big enough to make poppers, so I gave him two bags, and let him know some were apparently hot. He made them, and said the same, some hot some not. Towards the end of the season, i canned around twenty pints of slices and handed them out. Same reports..

I bought them at the local garden store, and asked them about it the following year. They reported only one variety sold.

They were all planted in the same box, got the same amount of water, same sun, etc etc. the only thing i can think is that one or two were hybridized seeds, or they had multiple varieties without knowing.

Anyway, everyone now asks if I’m planting jalapeños, cause they all want some each year. I plant 3-4 every year now to give away, and can some for dad.

I have a Ghost in the ground, along with a King Naga (Naga Jalokia), and a couple habaneros.

I understand a sandy, well draining soil is favorable for peppers, along with regular water. It helps with root health and overall plant happiness!

Here is my garden... a few 4x2x2 galvi raised beds aka troughs... I live where there is a shit ton of red clay and don’t have the time or the energy to make the soil viable so I went this route. First year with a garden at this house and we have 4 types of lettuce, zucchini, cucumber, broccoli, beets, and tomatoes. The tank that is flipped over will be used for potatoes.

    Cheers! F02AC216-172C-4D9F-A6A6-8598EF5CD786.jpg
