Nah, not unless they're giants. These plants are probably 12" tall, and they're being completely dug out and tossed off to the side. That's why I'm thinking skunk or possum; they smell the fertilizer I'm using and think it's something rotten and delicious, so they're completely digging through all of the dirt to try and find it.

I built some cedar cages around them instead, and I've set out my live-trap to see if I can get sprayed by a skunk tomorrow AM.

She bolted on u, likely a temp thing
Cut all the flowers/head off and get some shade on them. Might grow some new heads :)
U can prolly keep trimming it back until it gets colder and get a fall crop maybe?

Broccoli bolted, that's heat related. When I grow broccoli I put it next to the Japanese Maple so that it gets some afternoon shade to keep it from bolting as early.
The PH can be rectified over time with composting, but if you're looking for a quick drop you can add in some Aluminum Sulfate (usually it's packaged as 'Hydrangea Food' or something of that nature)

A little late, but if you are thinking skunk, wrap a thick garbage bag around the trap. Wrap it back about 1/3 from the door, and tuck it under the trap. It’ll look like a hole/cubby to the skunk. When caught, approach from behind, wrap bag forward over the door. It’ll help keep you from getting a direct blast.

    Heat.

Thanks guys. I came here posting pics first last night. This morning I woke up and read up on it and it’s heat related but what I was reading is the soil got to hot. I guess I’ll be watering what broccoli plants I have left more so the soil doesn’t warm up and hope those don't bolt also...

These galvi planters will be the death of me! All my gardens until now how been straight into the ground. Maybe when we get out of subdivision life I can go back to growing in the ground.

    Mistakes so far this grow.
    1. Killed my Romain lettuce by overwatering it
    2. Some other lettuce and broccoli both bolted on me
    3. Dealing with some high pH levels
    4. My tomato plants look wilted all the time but are producing fruit finally

    Positives so far...
Harvested my first batch of red leaf lettuce

Might consider a cover crop/nitrogen fixing living mulch to keep soil temps down
A thick layer of straw mulch would help too

Any tips on getting rid of this bush/tree up close to the house? Looks like it was a small tree and was cut down and has started growing again so im sure it has some thick roots. I want to put carpet grass in this particular flower bed like it is on the side of the house.

Also have this tree that i want gone. I was told it was a plum tree when i bought the house but i dont see any plums on it or evidence there ever was. Regardless, whats the best way to remove it. I was thinking about digging down far enough to get the chainsaw in so i can cut it below ground level. If i do that and cover it with soil will it grow back? I cant get the truck on the back yard to pull the stump.

Edit: HOUSE TREE: Cut everything off as close to the ground as you can, then drill a couple of holes in it and put some stump killer in them.

If you want to do it organically, you can cut everything off as close as possible and then cover it with something sunproof.

YARD TREE: Digging below as deep as you can and then cutting out what you can should take care of that one. Barring that, the same treatment (cut it off as close to flush with the ground as you can and then put some stump killer in it) will kill it off nicely.

Really, as long as you cut it off close enough to the ground so that you can mow over it without wrecking your blade to cut off any new growth for the first few months you'll be all set.

My wife makes up a solution of vinegar, salt, soap, and water. That stuff kills whatever vegetation it touches. It worked on the few stumps I’ve used it on.

Yeah, I use straight rock salt on mine. Does the trick pretty quickly.

If those house tree roots are fibrous it shouldn’t be too difficult to pop that tree right out
