Onions came in the mail yesterday. Hope to get them as well as my other cool weather crops in the ground Friday. Had to much rain this year to do anything yet.

Last year @Markcal posted a video Gardening Thread- Show me your gardens! and it got me interested. I tried borders on a few beds last year to give it a try, and I liked it. So this year I'm putting them on all my beds. Been working on it the last few days, but woke up to this:

Thanks, they (dogs and greenhouse) have served me well. Did not feel the quake, I'm over by Sheridan, so quite a ways away.

Who do you trust to buy plants and/or seeds from online?

For plants, this will obviously be biased to your location. For seeds, not so much.

I’m Bay Area, CA. Zone 9B. Mainly interested in honey bee plants.

For plants, my overall favorite is Annie's Annuals. I’m pretty sure, minus my poor judgement/ability I’ve had close to 99% success rate. Of course, they’re across the bay from me, so…

    I’ve also had success with
For seeds, my favorite is J.L. Hudson Seedsman. I love the catalog. Old timey with hand drawn pictures. Also, they’re a “public access seed bank - not a commercial seed company.”

    I’ve also had success with:

    And you?

Fedco pretty much exclusively these days. I don't buy any plants, I grow everyting from seed.

Got some of the cool weather crops in yesterday. Potatoes, onions, peas, and lettuce. Maybe get the carrots in next week as seed was back ordered.

Yeah, when I buy seeds it's generally from Johnny's, because they're right up the road. So if they can grow it, I should be able to as well, theoretically.

Our garden is super cloddy. I been trying to break them up with the little disc. Today I hooked the big one up.

Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!
I'm really wondering where to get plants from this year. I did not order early, and might be forced to go to the big box stores.

I’ve been wondering the same thing. Not sure if the locals have planted any in their greenhouses. Hopefully they did and we can get some of them.

Tomatoes are ready to be up potted. Should get to that in the next few days. I’ve started my own from seed for years because I like be able to get the varieties I want. But a few times I have filled in with plants from various big box stores. Around here they carry Bonnie brand plants. I have had good luck with their plants. The key is getting them soon after they arrive at the store because they sometimes are not taken care of the best.

I start everything from seeds. Lots of advantages. Biggest is you don't have to worry about being able to get plants. I also have heirloom varieties of everything I grow with the exception of corn, so I can save seeds, and not even have to buy those. I have grown plants from seeds I have saved from almost everything I grow. Still haven't saved seeds from carrots or beets yet, but it's on the agenda.

They're a pain, since they're a biennial and don't flower & seed until year 2. Makes it difficult to till & reseed the beds, and you've got to hope that the moles & other rodents leave your seed stock alone all winter. That alone makes it worth (to me) just buying the seeds for Parsnips, Carrots, and Beets.
