In a pinch you can always use potatoes from the grocery store.

I have to start over at the new house. Waiting for spring to check the sun angles and find a spot getting enough light. Not sure if I’m doing raised beds or not yet.

Current temp is 19F, with about 2’ of snow covering everything. It’ll be awhile before i do anything.

Only 16’ more feet of cedar fencing and an entry gate then the garden fence is completed (to keep the kids in while my wife gardens). We bought a few blueberry bushes, peach, nectarine, persimmon, and fig for outside the fence.

Nature is amazing. All of my hollies were loaded with berries this winter. They sat totally unmolested until two days ago when I saw probably over 100 robins perched in the trees and swarming those hollies. They dovoured every one within about an hour.

Now it's 0° and 6" of snow. We haven't had any meaningful snow accumulations in over 4 years. In the fall we were commenting on the incredible number of acorns and how fuzzy the caterpillars were.

It’s around 40* today . Still lots of snow on the ground . I just pruned my 2 apple trees in the backyard. Anyone have any other pointers on how to care for apple trees ? I get decent apples but they get weird spots and they are not perfectly round most times :notsure:

Hudson River valley is a pretty good place to grow apples. You’re probably getting some sort of not full pollination with regard to the shape. The spots are a blight, I think spraying them might be the only way to get rid of that.
I’ll have to read more about that apple shape thing.

Got the seed potatoes bought today. .80 cents a pound and got 14 1/2 pounds. Went back to Yukon Gold’s this year and only planting about a third of the potatoes we usually do. Hope to get them in the ground in 2-3 weeks.

Well all the fall planted garlic made it through the winter. Never did get straw on it but the coldest weather this winter we seemed to have snow so I’m sure that kept it insulated. 4 different types and all looking good.

Onions came in the mail today. I have ordered from Dixondale Farms for several years and have had good luck. A soon as weather permits I will get them in the ground. Lots of rain so probably be awhile.
