I've actually got stuff planted, and not just in pots in the greenhouse. In the garden, under the snow, I have spinach, lettuce, carrots, beets, kale, and chard planted. The only thing that is up is the spinach and lettuce, but it's still real small. It all should be fine, and well watered.

I do both. Didn't feel like shoveling my way to the garden just to take a photo.

    It's melting quick.

My spinach is looking kind of sad, but will perk up tomorrow.

Yesterday went well. Showed my son how to install a ceiling fan and two ceiling light fixtures. Had a little trouble with a screw in the ceiling fan electrical box. Attila the Hun used the wrong mounting screw and it was in there super tight, My son was able to break the screw off leaving 1/2 the screw threads in the hole. Lucky we had a replacement screw and a second mounting hole on that side so no trip to Lowes for me. I have never seen that type of ceiling electrical box before.

Yesterday the wind started up and brought a cold rain. Today is warmer but still wet. If it dries up I plan on installing the new outside electrical box with two circuits back to the Main box. About 35 years ago I had a hot tub in the back yard and ran enough extra wire for the hot tub and 5 extra circuits. I am currently using only 2 of the extra circuits. I figure there are two GFI outlets in the new box so why not have a separate circuit to each.

Next year I hope to have a wooden pavilion built on the back patio. The extra circuits will be nice.

It warmed up, and all the snow melted. I got a lot of work done this morning.

My spinach is looking pretty good considering it was under a foot of snow a week ago.

    I got my onions transplanted.
    IMG_4590.jpg

Two years ago I planted a few onions in the corner of my greenhouse with the intention of letting them go to seed. They did just that last year and produced lots of good seeds that I used this year. I never pulled them up, and was surprised to see them growing again this year. I did a little research and found out onions are a perennials. They will keep producing seed for me every year, cool. I also planted some carrots last year for seed, but only a few of them seem to have made it trough the winter. This will be my first time collecting seeds from carrots.
    IMG_4589.jpg

Got my Hungarian hot wax peppers transplanted. To the right of them is a Bill Bean tomato plant, and to the left, (back in the corner) a Brandywine tomato. Transplanted those today as well. I have a space heater in the greenhouse for just in case of excessively cold nights. Will likely need it frequently through May.
    IMG_4587.jpg

I have spinach, kale and lettuce that is really starting to take off. I plant it close and eat the thinnings. It's to the point that I won't be able to eat it fast enough to properly thin it. Have to give some away. The small tomatoes in the trays are going to end up out in the garden, but it's too soon to put them out. They are called Punta Banda, and they grow well in our short growing season outside of the greenhouse. We can get frost until the end of May. The peppers, big tomato plants and onions in pots are all excess that I will give to friends.

Looks like he's going for some thermal mass, to me. Regulates the temperature swings.

That’s what I figured just wanted it said. Are those used fruit juice bottles? Considering your northern location and greenhouse use it makes sense.

I always wanted to do that with open top ponds on a larger scale as a pipe dream.

Yep, about three years of fruit juice. They stack nice, and hold up pretty good to freezing.

My parents have 3 of the old 100LB propane cylinders that they use. Painted black. The water in them freezes every winter, I'm sure, but they're built strong enough to handle the pressure, apparently, because 20 years on they're still going strong. :notsure:

My wife has been busy in the garden while I’ve been working on getting the edges secured and the fencing completed. Only a few more plants to plant until harvest and cool weather planting.

Got the potatoes hilled up today for the final time. Tilled the rest of the garden just because. Got some fertilizer on with some rain do in overnight. Everything looking good. Still 2-3 weeks from planting warm weather crops.
