I have/had several zero turns, the one I use now is a bobcat, sucker is a beast compared to everything else I've mowed with. Most comfortable seat I've set in, probably why I like it so much. Mows incredible too!

Used to be a Deere fan, but I haven't been impressed with the newer ones I've used the last few years. Seems like the castings have gotten thinner and I've broken three weld points on the FEL's on two machines. Granted, nothing's made like it used to be, but....:notsure:

I dont have enough land to justify machinery bigger than a riding mower, but my 70 year old father restored three 1940s-era Allis Chalmers tractors about 30 years ago and uses them regularly to this day. Probably the most reliable machines I've ever seen. I grew up running those things all over the old homestead :)

Yeah, my old man has a 1957 Ford 600 series and a mid-80's Ford 4610. The 600 has been a much more reliable machine, even with the old 6V system.

Finally got some updated garden shots this weekend.
    Peas & Green Beans:

The squash finally fell over and started vining out a couple of weeks ago. From left to right I've got 2 Boston Marrow, 2 Buttercup, and 4 butternut.

Boston Marrow fruit setting on the vine. Believe it or not, this thing should be 12-15lbs by harvest time.

Carrots are doing well so far.

2nd crop of beets and the parsnips are finally getting started.

Tomatoes are off to a slow start this year, though. Finally getting established, though.

Cukes are starting to climb their trellises
    [IMG]

Garlic is doing well this year, though.
The scapes are nearly shoulder high. That's not saying much, though, because I only stand 5'7.

    Slug patrol.

Sunflowers. From left to right I've got Russian Mammoth, Mammoth Grey, and Mongolian Giant.

My gardening assistant. She'll move wherever the sun is, and keep an eye on me to make sure I don't cause trouble.

    Awesome set up!!!!
This is my 2nd crop of squash, have a gazillion green tomatoes, need less rain and more heat! Garlic tops have died off, zucchini is all blooms still. Just need a lot more sun!

Geez Noel, I keep forgetting how far north you live!! We're already on our second planting for beans a cukes, and our 'maters are coming in so fast that we have to make sauce soon. You have an awesome garden, by the way. Looks like a lot of time and love goes into it!!

Here's our first round of tomatoes, with about ten times this still on the vines. Also fermenting a few quarts of banana and Hungarian wax peppers, with Jalapeños added for heat.

Too much rain is definately no good for tomatoes :(. Glad that you got a good cucumber harvest though, make any pickles?

I didn't make any pickles. I don't know how to. I would like to get into it tho.

My sister makes a cucumber/watermelon juice that's amazing! It's a latino thing. Ever heard of it?

How do you know when garlic is ready? What weather does it like?

I planted a few garlic in February, and it grew about six inches and stunted.

Since your in a mild temp range, planting in February was a good idea, usually in warmer weather climate wait til the tops start to yellow and begin to fall over, 6" is a little short though, maybe around November plant some more and let them " winter " and you can harvest in spring after weather warms up a bit and you'll see the same thing happen, yellow than wilt a bit. Dig them up and hang them in a cool dry place for 2 weeks then they will be ready to go.

    Hanging by a thread:

Has anyone tried doing a trellis on watermelons and melons? I know it sounds crazy, just curious. That's why I have that one up there, its an experiment. It's not too far off the ground so it wont hurt the plant if it gets too big

so once they yellow they are ready to go. How tall do they get?

Do they like a lot of water? I wonder if all the texas rain has messed with them.

    Tolerate frost?
