What's a best way to eat dragonfruit? We tried some, and I do not know if it was not ripe enough, or over ripe, or we did not prep it right?

I usually slice it like an apple long ways, then treat it like an orange slice by separating the fruit from the skin. Another way is to cut in in half long ways, then use a spoon to eat the inards.

Yeah Barsoom, wish you all in this thread were around here at this time of harvest, you'd be treated to some sweet and ripe off the vine fruit. Usually have two cycles per year with our dragonfruit, summer and winter.

The ones in the stores up north usually are picked too early, before they get sweetened on the vine. Local "Produce Stores" in CA and FL usually have sweeter fruit because of harvest to transport is daily.

If any of you head down this way, give me a heads up and i'll check the vines.

I will bring you some blackberry and some fig jam to trade.

Figs are the same way. Wife had said she hated figs, until she tried them right off the tree, not the green ground figs in fig newtons.

Good deal. I'm the same way, okra, beans, most everything tastes better of the vine and raw.

Still going a bit. Okra in high gear now, this much daily. The blue berries are thinning out and the last of the corn.

All of that looks delicious. Forgive my ignorance, cows will eat all the cuttings/stalks?

Hot July made figs ripen 2 weeks early.
Thankfully, it rained for the last week also, so they had a chance to grow in size.

LOL, animals are funny, keep things interesting. Had my neighbors Peacock directly above me this morning on an Oak tree branch, chirpin at me while I was shoveling soil into tractor cart.

Nice lookin, jam in the cards? Our Avocados have been plumping up too, with this humid 107 heat index here.

The Mrs buried some old eggs in one of our raised beds, from a nerighbors coup yesterday. We have a family of racoons that smelt it and dug up the bed. Their sniffers are incredible. Well, this time they left a little of their own fertilizer as payment.

Not sure about jam, to be honest. We have 30 pints of fig jam left from last year. We just do not eat it fast enough. Will freeze some, and we need to start adding figs to dishes. Wonder how they taste diced up in pasta sauce?
    These onee we'll eat fresh.

I've had good luck catching racoons with giant marshmallows in live traps. Dry cat food is always good too.

    lol, i hear you.
We mix mangos into different things, they all pop at one time. Got a freezer bout full of sealed pineapple that my snowbird siblings enjoy in fall/winter.
Have had success with the canned catfood, havent heard about the marshmallow bait ... might try that.

Dry cat food works great too. Normally I use it, but I was trying to tame a stray kitten at the time, to turn him into another barn cat. My FIL suggested marshmallows, and they worked! He used to use them years ago.

Figs here too. Cut grass this eve so was too wore out to get the ladder. A bunch up top that’ll have to be got from the woodshed roof.
