Got my Asparagus in today after work. Tilled the soil down about six inches, added some sand and composted manure, then filled it with a mix of loam and compost. Trenched it up and planted the roots, and in a little over a year I'll have some edible Asparagus!

What was the problem with the sprinkler system? Too much water? Those heads look like the heads I use on my citrus trees. They dump out a lot of water, which citrus trees like.

How often do you guys water?

Theyre good for "local" watering. i want something that "fans" out more.

I feel that i didnt have enough pressure to have all 24 on at the same time.

The ones in the picture were the ones that worked better, all the others only had a trickle come out of them.

If anyone is interested in those sprinkler heads, I have them up for grabs.

Maybe have a line that runs to each bed with a shutoff valve on the pump side? Then you could turn just one or two beds on at a time?

I work 12 hour days, I turn it on in the morning, and my sister turns them off on her way to work. The circumstances dont allow a two phase irrigation. Its all or none.

When i get home, its dark and I dont want to water at night to prevent mold/mildew growth on cucumbers.

I am thinking about setting up some timers.

Has anyone used that mr. landscaper water sprinklers from lowes?

How many inches of water do you guys give your raised vegetable beds?

I want to make sure im not over watering them.

Im using a gardening soil mix, so it drains pretty well.

Gotcha. Time constraints are a bitch for running a garden.
I've never used the timers, honestly. I'm up early enough that I can water before I go to work when they need it.

If we haven't had any rain I usually give mine about inch of water every couple of days. But I live in a much less arid climate than Texas. You might need more.
My hot peppers get a different treatment once they have fruit set on; I let them dry out until the leaves start to droop, then I'll water them for a few days to let them recover, then let them go dry again. Seems to make the peppers hotter.

It depends on what you are watering. You can give a single tomato plant 5 gallons a day and he will be happy. other plants not so much. If we aren't getting any rain, i try to water every day in the beginning and then every other day once the plants are established.

Looks sharp. I usually trellis mine with stakes and string as they grow...

    ...because of this.
But, you won't have to redo yours every year. So it's a long term/short term thing, I guess.
