I think we are going to save up for it, Ive been researching it and it looks interesting. Just will take some time to build...but overall not really too damaging to the pocketbook...

we arent looking to do large scale stuff so they have different sizes that fit your individual needs. for the price of what some people are charging just for the greenhouse you can prob build this setup,

Heres a link that got me interested...

With where our average temps and daylight hours are during the winter, I'd have to keep it heated somehow. I'd like to at some point have an insulated greenhouse attached to the front of my house, but I'm saving that for when I custom build.

Oh jesus, it uses geothermal. I missed that part earlier. That's typically not cheap.

their site says $1,000-to $5000 depending on the size. The tubes they bury are just the black irrigation pipe, a few blower motors and thermostats...Just have to get the right amount of air flow. Which is in their plans. It really doesnt look awful to build. Im going to jump in on the project in the next couple years.

My dad built a greenhouse from rejected/flawed sliding glass doors received at a nearby lumber yard. Used a a very old wood stove to heat it in the winter. Worked out well. Was a great place to take a break when out snowmobiling for the day too.

I am sure that there are much more efficient designs out there that can take advantage of solar and geothermal heat as well as cheaper plastic materials.

If you guys ever get the chance, buy this book:. https://www.amazon.com/Back-Basics-Traditional-American-Skills/dp/0895770865

It is awesome for diy projects and kinda "off-grid" living ideas. It's not just on Amazon, it was just the first link that came up on Google.

It will be a few more months until any garden work starts, but the longer days mean the chickens are producing pretty regular again.

We've contemplated getting some chickens but when summer rolls around my wife likes to travel a little so that puts a bind in our plans. We dont want to hassle the neighbors in to taking care of them for the times we are gone, if we had chickens. On the flip side I do miss farm raised chicken eggs...much better than commercial chicken eggs.

Might be too early but planted one row of spinach and one of swiss chard this week. Will continue to plant one row each week for the next month. Barren looking garden...

Credit goes to my wife. She took the picture and picked chicken breeds that lay the different color eggs. We're lucky that our neighbor also has chickens, so we take turns feeding/watering for each other during vacations.

I'm jealous you can already start planting. We're at least 6-8 weeks out before the early crops go in. It's typically the end of May before the main garden is planted.

No doubt we'll get more hard freezes but I'll cover with plastic. Fingers crossed no heavy snow

Cold crops won't go in until April here. Need to turn the soil and get her prepped in March.

Our weather is awesome right now, and the frost is out (dug holes this afternoon for posts for new bird houses), but I'm pretty sure we're still in for a good snow storm or two before winter is really over. ;)

What color chicken lays a blue egg? I thought it was white chickens = white eggs, brown chickens = brown eggs.

    Ameraucana's lay the blue eggs.IMG_4230.jpg

We also have Easter Eggers (mutts ;) ) that lay greenish-blue eggs and another that lays tan eggs.
    IMG_4231.jpg

And the dark brown eggs are from the French Black Copper Marans.

These are older pics, grabbed them off of Facebook.

Tom - this is another ameraucana (blue Wheaton) rooster. He also has blue egg genes.

    IMG_4234.jpg

If crossed with the Marans (brown egg layer), we should get olive colored eggs from the offspring. It will be interesting to see what happens.
