Here's my current setup with the rain drums, more or less:
Gutters on the front side of the house collect rainwater from the roof

They channel it into a length of pipe that runs down into the drums

The drums are connected by another length of PVC with a hose spigot fitted to them.

Of course, these are older photos. I've since painted the tanks and the PVC to protect from UV degradation and inhibit algae growth, guttered the back side of the house and added a second downspout to the tank from that side

My current obstacle for a drip system is that the tanks are only about a foot about the garden, ish. Not enough vertical drop for much pressure, and I don't want to add a pump for expense/simplicity reasons. So instead I'll keep tinkering with different drip designs, lol. I don't mind, it's kind of a summer hobby. :notsure:

Cleaned out the chicken run (broken down leaf matter from last fall) and tilled it into the garden. Might get some early season plants in soon, but still 7-8 weeks until the garden is planted.

Worked the soil today, amendments look like they are starting to pay off. I'll till again just before I plant.

I'm starting to feel the same way. The raised beds were new last year. The soil we bought (a garden blend from a local place) seemed very sterile. The mulch we added last year and the chicken fertilizer from this year has it looking a lot better. Looking forward to seeing how the plants do this summer...

The topsoil I had delivered looked so bad. Stuff did well the first year surprisingly, but that could have been from all the rain. Last two years weren't great, but we had a major lack of rain during all the right times. I added composted manure for two years, moss last year, and probably do chicken this year. I added the moss to help hold water.

I tilled for about 4.5-5hrs the other day....It was the first till on compacted dirt. The dirt looks good dark color but I know its got to be lacking in nutrients. We are going to get some bags of cow manure and I'll till it in and hopefully that will make a good base. I have to put up a fence as the first night I had FRESH deer tracks going through the new garden area.

I didn't check mine today, but I normally do have tracks as well. I have a fence, time for high speed lead injection.

Damn it. Local nursery/garden supply store is going out of business. They didn't even start any vegetables this year. Was going to stop by on a drive I took with the boy tonight, and they weren't even open, down to Friday and Saturday only selling off whatever they have left. Time to start searching for a new place to buy stuff, and I refuse to get my plants for the big box stores.
