Just bought one of these units 2nd hand for $250, ive been eyeing the Garmin Montana etc but so expensive, this is a pretty good deal and has Inreach, maps etc. Its small but can also be carried around hiking and put on a bike etc..my question is does anyone else use this unit and whats a good mounting set up for my truck, thanks

I've had one for several years. I have several of it's predecessors that I have used for decades. It's a great handheld (think "hiking") GPS and you can install any map set that you can find or buy, unlike most of the purpose built GPS devices.

Download Garmin Express and Garmin Basecamp. Invest a bunch of time learning how to use each and then you can plan out whatever trip you like. The platform is incredibly powerful and also more than a little complicated. There is a way to do anything that you can think of using a GPS to do, if you can figure out how that works in Basecamp and the 66i. I usually use Basecamp to create tracks instead of routes and then just follow the track that I created or one that I found on the interweb someplace.

If you want a mount to hold the 66i someplace in front of you on or near your dash, take a look at the RAM ball mounts. They make many many mounts and they make a specific holder for the 66i. The RAM ball connection between the mount that attaches to your dash and then connects to the 66i holder with a ball joint so that you can adjust it to face you.

If you want to use the inReach to save your ass some day, you have to be subscribing to their monitoring service. They have many levels of service plans. I think the cheapest is $8/month.

What a thorough reply! Ya i did some research and this seemed like a great all around unit, the trade off being small screen, but i also want to carry around fishing etc, im not sure the Montana would have worked for that, so being a small screen id like to get as close to my face as possible in truck, was the ram mounts you mentioned suction to glass or drill into dash? They probably have both

There are RAM mounts and/or bases that clamp to things, both round and/or square, suction cup bases, bases that can be semi-permanently installed with double sided tape, and other methods that I can't remember right now. My favorite for inside a vehicle or on my motorcycles is to use extra heavy duty velcro. Sometimes I use velcro and also secure the base with a zip tie. I tend to do that on my KTM enduro dirt bike.

Just take a look at the RAM ball web site and then dive down the rabbit hole that is Amazon.
