I'm looking to update my Garmin maps on a soon to be 4 year old Garmin Nuvi. Anyone have lifetime maps that can e-mail me the download to update mine? North America map only, won't be taking the Tacoma to other continents. Thanks.

I can tell you the update process is very secure...it's not a simple link to download the maps.

Unless your Garmin is a "special" unit, the new GPS units are getting very cheap.
    Some have life-time map/traffic updates.
    All for a little over a $100.
Heck, the update CD is usually around $90.

Just buy another unit and yes, the map CD's are very secure.
It's to prevent others from doing just what you want to do.

The garmin update process ties the maps to the serial number of the unit. Amazon has lifetime updates for less than $70, or like others said, some newer units come with lifetime maps (LMT) models. Note, the lifetime subcription is again tied to the serial number of the unit.

Bonus is the lifetime updates come out quarterly instead of annually like the one-time updates.

I most certainly would not be the kind of person to suggest any kind of thing like going to the pirate bay dot org and torrenting the maps and following the instructions made by the poster.

    Map updates are just that.
When streets are added/moved/whatever, the new maps will reflect the changes.

Traffic alerts provide real-time, subscription-free traffic conditions for safe and efficient navigation.
(Probably used most around the big cities.)

I didn't know the updates were unit specific. I'll keep using what I have until I upgrade to a newer model Garmin. I thought it was either a cd or download. No big deal. Thanks.
