What “cap” over the 12pin socket are you referring to? The little clear light cover thing on the drivers side of the back of the mirror?

This is how mine looked before using the Amazon adapter — simply unplug the connected 12pin and reconnect it to the Amazon dongle. Hope that helps.

late reply- but it ended up working well! No real issues. Can’t remember if I got exactly that one listed in the thread, but probably. Sometimes I catch the camera not on, and have to press against the wiring, or push the power button on the cam, but rarely. Good purchase.

I used my knife and buggered the cap a bit- which is fine I have no intention of using it again. But maybe use a plastic trim tool instead of a Benchmade.

I know I am bringing up an old thread, but am looking to hear from members who installed the Garmin mini using the dongar adapter if this setup has held up for you. Any heating issues or garmin product issues? I am looking to do this setup on my 2013. I have the auto dimming, rear backup camera and temp gauge built in to my mirror. I have the 12 pin plug so I know it will work based on the info in this thread.

    Thanks,

What happened? Was everyone just staring at their phones and the lead car was going really slowly? Wild!

Any updates on Dongar overheating/trying to fry ECU? About to order one, negative Amazon reviews were mostly from the same time period in 2020 so might be better now!

Only issue I've had so far, is that very infrequently the cam won't turn on automatically. I wiggle the connector and it fires up. No overheating- and it gets HOT in South Carolina. I highly recommend.

Well if it works for you in Savannah, it will work for me too! The Savannah heat was my concern.

Installed mine a couple of weeks ago with the Dongar adapter. Sits in the sun in San Diego. No issues and I can't even tell the camera is there. Only way I would know is it beeps when turning on and off.
