I recently got a 2007 Tacoma. Second time Tacoma owner. My first one was an '89 (22R engine). Amazing engines, by the way.
One thing I've noticed is that my 2007 Tacoma noticably sucks through gas. About 220 miles on a full tank of gas, rougly. The terrain is somewhat moutainous and stop and go driving. I can almost see the gauge pin move. Its a 6 cylinder, but I didn't think that it burned so much fuel.
Before the Tacoma, I had a GMC Canyon, 5 cylinder. It was very good on gas.
Question is...Is this a little flaw that the Tacomas have? Is there something wrong with the engine that may be burning too much fuel?
    Just curious.

What's the actual average MPG number?

The odometer just turned 210,000 miles. I used one of those online MPG calculators and according to it, my mileage is about 12.5 miles per gallon. I haven't changed the spark plugs yet. I don't know when the plugs were changed before I bought it.

Ouch that's pretty low. Does it have a lift/bigger tires?

I have an 07 with 124k on it and I get about 325 on a full tank so something doesn't sound right. May need a tune up but I use to only get 280ish and I used seafoam through the vacuum line and gas tank and after all the carbon and crap coming out I easily gained close to 50 more miles on a tank.

Not saying that will help but just from my experience

No lift kit or big tires. Factory steel rims. I changed the oil to Mobil 1 and a new air filter. Like I mentioned earlier, spark plugs are on deck to be changed. No significant tune up that I know of.

Could be winter influence creating low MPG's? I know my truck sucks down more gas in the winter. Those old model Colorado/ Canyon models with the weird 5 cylinder did well on gas, but couldn't do much truck work lol. A friend has it, 220k still running well too. I would go through do all new plugs, fluids (if you haven't already) ect ect.

Sounds like guessing. Do the real math. It's not hard.

I know the winter wouldn't have an effect on it, I live in the Virgin islands.
If it freezes here, the world is coming to an end. We're all in trouble. Ha...

Time to go through the truck, do a tune up ect. I usually get close to 300 in a tank even with a heavy foot, winter around 280.

I average 17.7-18.2 depending on the tank. Mostly highway miles, cruising around 75. DCLB. It sounds like a good tune up is in order.

Also, make sure you don't have a seized up brake. When I worked in a shop I saw that a couple times. Had a guy come in complaining of 4 MPG on his lifted 2500 Chevy. Popped the wheels off and one brake had been seized and ground the rotor down to tin foil

Here's a shot in the dark...could the tires not being balanced cause gas consumption issues? When I'm driving and get up to about 30MPH the vehicle starts to shake/vibrate. Feels like something is holding the vehicle back. It stops when it hits about 40MPH and up.
    Just curious...

You need an online calculator to do:
    Miles traveled / gallons consumed?

    I agree. Tune up time.
Also check little things like tire size, making sure the gas cap is locked down, etc.

Definitely jumping on the train here...

Mine has 200,000 miles, full lift, oversized tires, arb bull bar, cap, racks and I still get 16 mpg at a minimum..... Last time I did the plugs they were pretty worn, might be worth looking at first if you have originals...

My 07 DCSB 4x4 gets 14mpg in the city. Mix of highway(under 75mph) and city averages 19.8mpg. Straight highway at 75mph+ gets 18mpg.

This is from day one with no lift or large tires.

My 2014 is box stock auto v6 aclb and I just turned over 20K. I've been getting a little over 21 mpg for the last several tanks full, live in the mountains but driving lately has been mostly flat and 50-65 mph.

    None --- yet!
Could also be dragging brakes caused by old contaminated brake fluid or worn calipers. Bleeding the brakes is cheap and easy.
