Great company and product for sure. would have loved to go with them. however, as you can see, the Moeller is an absolutely perfect fit between the wheel wells, and left just enough room under the tool box to mount the transfer pumps. it was like the tank was made for a Tacoma, so I was happy to go with Moeller

no need to ground any of the tank components. the only metal component is the aluminum pick-up tube. I don't have it rigged up with a sender unit (usually has a metal cap). So the only arc you could make would be between the fuel fill nozzle at a gas station and the pickup tube. if you fill via the supplied cap, i don't believe you could twist the fill nozzle at the gas station in a way that will get anywhere close enough to arc with the pick-up tube. on my personal setup, I have a rubber fill hose running to the side of the truck, so the closest the fill nozzle will ever get is still 3 feet away.

I have a mowing business and go through alot of gas through cans. I HATE all the new no spill gas cans. They piss fuel all over the place, and take forever to pour out the spout. I have thrown away many of these shitty tanks.

I see alot of the MotoCross guys with tanks like this...
They advertise as a 5 gallon, but easily hold 6 gallons each. They do not leak at all! I can drain the entire tank in a minute, vs 8 mins with the other styles I had.

    I bought mine a few yrs ago, I believe I paid $60 for 2. Now I see them for $75 a pair, but I didn't search much.

Just a heads up, you'd be amazed at how much of a static charge that can build up with plastic while transferring fluids through or into it. Depending on the situation, you can get a helluva zap from it. It would be a good idea to figure out a way to have it grounded to the truck.

This is not a wise ass remark - but I must have a thick head - how would you "ground" a plastic tank? It just doesn't compute. I haven't seen any requirements to ground the truck as I fuel it - and it is sitting on rubber - along with its fuel tank. Does that tank have some sort of "ground"?

    Definitely!!

And for what it's worth, I would say scepters over Rotopax for anything mounted vertical. The Rotopax mounts are WEAK. Case in point: I recently lost everything on a trail.

Not taken as a wise ass remark, but every gas pump I've ever used has this label or something similar on it:

It's usually in some really conspicuous place in the front of the pump that nobody every looks at because of the at-the-pump TV screens or the cute lady  two pumps over or whatever. I've gotten into the habit of touching the door latch hook on the body of the truck as my feet hit the ground on the way out and then one of the filler door bolts before grabbing the nozzle. Yeah. I'm a fuddy duddy.

For the plastic boat tank, I'd fill it on the ground. If that weren't possible, I'd have it hard mounted with metal straps to the bed and then, on the underside, run a ground wire from one of the fasteners to the frame of the truck. Granted, that's my opinion after getting bitten pretty hard by static built up in a plastic hose that we were transferring lube oil with on the ship. It arced a good inch or so, made a nice popping sound and hurt like a mofo. I solved the problem with a ground wire and clip that I connected to one of the hose fittings and a bare spot on the hull.

Oh, almost forgot. For gas cans, I like the metal NATO style. I've used the CARB style plastic cans and I've given them all away or thrown them out. Haven't had a chance to check out the Scepter ones but that's the likely direction I'll go if for some reason the NATO cans stop working for me.

Yeah, no longer legal in the US thanks to CA CARB.

So used is all you'll get here.

So here is the diagram I found that best shows the boat ground scheme. The US Coast Guard basically requires each METAL part connected to the plastic tank and filler tubes - to be connected to ground.
    Fuel_Tank.jpg

On a boat the USCG considers an outboard motor to be "ground" - Moeller's stuff says use the starting battery ground (and it would usually be connected to the boat engine). Some diagrams also show the ground to be routed under the double screw clamps of the filler hose. In order to be "two separate clamps" on each end the USCG says they can't touch each other.......?
