Hello all,, I’m needing a knowledgeable soul to trouble shoot why my gas cap or fuel tank is causing my check engine light to show a code of P0101 .

This has gone on 4 months. My check engine light comes on and is the code for the mass air flow sensor. The sensor and air filter and electric connection and vacuum lines appear nice.

During this time I’ve effectively gotten the light to go off by removing the gas cap. After 3 months looking at the sensor I bought a new gas cap a month ago but the light came on again for 75 miles ,,I thought it must be something else until I released the cap and tightened it again. Light went off before I could look.

Are you the mechanic to solve this? Can you sort out why the new gas cap is causing the mass air flow sensor to show bad?

How is the gas cap/fuel tank affecting air flow? Thereby causing the sensor to signal the check engine code.

Truck has continued running nice all along. Light on or off.

    Thank you

Yes I have. I’ve taken a plug out and checked vacuum lines while in there. The connection works crisp. Wires nice, New filter, dry.

For 3 months the gas cap being retightened made the light go off.

And I bought a new gas cap. Well, the light came on and stayed on. I figured not the cap and went 100 miles on 4-5 rides before needing gas. Pulled in for gas,, put cap back on and the light went out. There must be a connection between the pressure in the gas tank and that sensor.

    No clue! Lol!
