Gas door rubs on body causing paint to wear off both body and door. The bottom part of what is holding swivel pin appears to be loose causing it to not open smoothly. 2011 and only 12k miles. I hate how so many stupid little things go wrong with this truck...side mirror rattle, blower motor chirp....I like the truck most of the time, but hate wasting time dealing with minor stuff!

my bottom piece of that bracket is broken now. Im just careful with it.
I dont think there is a way to repair unless grinding off the old hinge tab and welding a new one on is something of interest.

Maybe your just missing a rubber "plug/bumper" (or both) that keeps the door lined up when in the "locked position". If so, they should be able to pop them in and your on your way. There are two of them.

Make sure to keep the hinges lubed or they will rust and seize. If that has already happened, order a complete new gas door, hinge and all. Just drill the 2 rivets out of the broken one to remove it. Much easier than trying to weld the thin, painted metal on the truck.

I had this issue too after 1 year and 10k miles. Mine was result of hinge rusting and seizing up. Opening the door warps the thin hinges. I bent mine back using a shop towel over a screw driver. I touched up the paint and keep a can of silicone spay in my storage box. I hit it every other fill up. No issues after 2 more years.

seeing as how you have a 2011 and only 12K miles, I say take it in and let them fix it.

I just started having this problem as well, 1.5 yrs old at 33k. The sheet metal on this beast seems very subpar.

Road salt will do this. Those in the south probably won't see this until the normal rust from water takes it's toll. Keep spraying with the silicone every few fill-ups. I've been fine for a year now.

my 2012 just had the spot weld near the lower part of the hinge (holds hinge/frame to the door) go bad, the door doesn't want to open properly. Local dealership said that body work is never covered under warranty and I would need to get a body shop to fix it.

That is BS unless you hit it etc... If the weld broke under normal usage they should fix it.
