Gas Filter?

    Would someone be kind enough to tell me where's the gas filter, that never has to be changed, on the 2nd gen 2.7? I took a quick look and didn't see it. My 1st gen was under the starter if I recall, anyway it was a P.I.T.A. My brother in law has a 6 and it was on the frame rail, a snap. Thanks

    Thanks. I looked for instructions on the link sight but did not see any. Says it is good for 2TR-FE I-4, is that a 2.7 ? Does the kit put filter outside the tank or just replace the old one? Says it is an upgrade, so that would mean to me some how mo better not just a replacement. Thanks

    The fuel filter is part of the fuel pump on the second gens. It shouldnt need serviceing. If it does, you need to pull the pump too.

    Thanks Chris. I had a 2000 and when I changed the fuel filter @ 90,000 and it was a mess, so I thought on my 09 if it was a mess it would cause back pressure and make the fuel pump work too hard. You are the master, am I thinking correctly? If so is there a way prevent this?

    The second gen fuel pump/filter assembly is designed to go at least 250,000 miles before needing service. Its a good set up. As long as you keep over 1/4" tank of fuel in your truck, and dont let it get to "E" very often, it should be a non issue.

    You are the man to ask. Thanks. 250,000 miles sounds good to me. Fuel pump is cooled by gas so you need to keep it covered, there for the 1/4" tank and no "E" . Correct? Thanks.

    Yeppo! The gasoline also cools the pump. Running it routinely near "E" can overheat the pump causeing it to fail.

    Well I guess I'm lucky and unlucky. I have a stick and she can't drive it. Her car broke Sat, it's a dealer part and I can't get it til Mon, I could fix it Sun if I could get it. I have to get up 1 hr early Mon, 4 AM, to get her to work so I can get to work on time.

    Yeah, I know, old thread revival...anyway, I'm gonna call FAIL on the in the tank shit. I know, it's just my opinion but c'mon, how bout a little consistency? They make most money on parts right? Well, this is one I'd much rather replace myself every 30k or so instead of just hoping for the best & waiting 250k to drop tank to do it. 8 of those at 35.00 or whatever price a factory filter would be to get to 250k would get them some coin on regular basis wouldn't it? Sure would like to have one inline anyway. Like get the frame mount inline one from 1st gen 2.7l.........

    I'm no expert on anything, that's why I read this forum every day. chris4x4 seems to be the expert on tw but I agree with you. All the crap you see in a filter when you change it yourself at 30 or so, how must the in tank be at 250? Also I'm a maintenance freak so I do everything sooner then the factory recommended anyway.
