Hey, I’m new here and hoping someone has some information on my wonky fuel gauge.

I bought my truck about six months back. One owner, purchased and serviced at the dealer for its lifetime, and they replaced the fuel pump before selling so that was another bonus.

Fuel gauge worked normally for the first few months and then it stopped reading. I took it in to have the fuel pump replaced under warranty, thinking it was a bad part.

Long story short, the mechanic put four different fuel pumps in this thing and the gauge still isn’t reading properly.

It doesn’t budge until I drive about 120 miles. It then very slowly moves down, but never below 1/4, which is when it’s actually empty.

Every mechanic I’ve spoken to is stumped. Any ideas? Anyone else experience this?

Was the truck originally sold new in Canada and then imported to the US or vice versa? If so, part of the import process is to pry the needles off to change the gauge face. It’s possible they didn’t get the needle on correctly.

Sounds like a gauge issue if the fuel pump/sending unit has been replaced.

Or someone may have to drop the tank and tweak the sending unit arm a tad.

I just replaced my fuel pump and I get 80 miles before it comes down off of "Full."
I haven't run it all of the way down, to see where empty really is yet. Yes, I'm afraid that I may be dropping the tank again to tweak mine.

If the needle was placed back on the gauge too far in the full direction you would have these exact same symptoms.

Stays on full for a long time and then never drops below 1/4 tank.

What you could do if you are patient and have a steady hand.
    Fill the fuel tank.
Remove the fuel gauge needle and replace it pointing at the full mark.
