Well, while being a teen in high school with a truck capable of carring 5 people is awsome at times, it presents problems of it's own. I'm always being asked to take people places and living in a large, spread out city is hell on the gas. And having cheap friends ins't a plus when gas money is asked for. When I decline a ride, somebody always peaks their head in the window to look at my gas gauge and as long as it's above a 1/4, I get crap from them.
So back to my main point. Is there a way to rig up a switch or button that, when depressed, makes the gas gauge drop to E and the light comes on? And when disengaed, makes the needle go back to the right amount? I haven't messed with the wiring in my truck yet and I'm reluctant to so I was just wondering if anyone had an idea on how to trick the fuel gauge. This was just a stupid idea that I thought of one day that, if sucsesful, would save me a bunch of time and more importantly, MONEY!!! :D

    And to the OP.

The best thing to do is stop worrying about being a dick and be realistic with people.

It sounds like you are the only person in your group of friends with a vehicle..is that true? If so there is no problem with helping your buddies out with a ride, I know I used to do this..however they always were more than happy to pay me back either with money, food, or other things....

If your friends have vehicles...then they sound like shitty friends that are trying to use you because they are jealous of the truck...

Also make sure to not go completely out of your way to give somebody a ride unless its really important..people will see you as a pushover and take advantage of you.

Just draw a picture of a gas gauge with the needle on "E" and stick it over your actual fuel gauge. Your friends will believe it.

Next time someone sticks their head in your window, roll it up.

That should stop the problem after one or two examples are made.

...Maybe this is why you're not supposed to have a car given to you when you're a teenager in high school. Earning something valuable teaches you a hell of a lot more than just having it handed to you. My guess is if you worked your ass off, bought a truck/car/rickshaw yourself, you'd have the rocks to tell your friends to pay up or 'f off.
