Gumout Regane and Redline SL-1 have similar amounts of polyether amines (PEAs) - same stuff as Techron. I buy whatever is cheapest ATM.

I have a ultra gauge mounted in my cab so I watch my instantaneous mpg's and it tracks them. On a flat highway trip I gained 2.5 mpg's just by slowing down from 76 to 71mph. That was on flat ground. Hills will make it much worse and 80+ even worse.

Double cab short bed 4x4 V6 on stock size tires (17" wheels). I drive 85 - 90% on highway. I average 17.2 - 17.8 mpgs per tank running 93 OCT and a fuel cleaner (Techron) every 3rd tank.

93 OCT is not helping mpg's. I run it to prevent knocking at high RPM.

This past summer I read so many people say how it increased mpg's so I tested it for 3 tanks. My mileage went down so that test ended.

420 mi/tank is pretty much the limit.

I've squeezed 22 mpgs out of a few tanks in my time. OEM tires, skipping gears and shifting at 2k.

Some people's post scare me on here. It absolutely makes sense to allow your car to warm up! Especially in cold weather. The oil needs to warm up and circulate. You won't notice it today but if you keep your vehicles for a long time you will notice in 5-6 years when the rings start failing. Getting in your car and starting it and taking off in subzero temps = damage down the road!

I also did long distance comparison, going 400 miles on premium (91 octane here) and 400 miles on regular (87 octane). The difference was almost nothing, but I got slightly better mileage on the 87 octane! (like 21 vs 20.5 mpg) ... I posted all the figures here a while ago.

It is ethanol that robs the mileage... California gas has 10% corn crap in it. When I go to Mexico, my mileage goes up 10%, they use corn to make tortillas down there!

Something is wrong in your engine, I suspect? My owners manual recommends 87 octane and I never have any knocking, even in hot condition with a heavy load going up a mountain. There are pre-ignition systems that prevent knocking, as well. I have only used premium to test the difference... running several tanks of it to make sure the computer resets for that octane... no change to justify the higher cost. I would think your gasoline in Texas is far better than the hippy-altered gas here in California?

That is from the old days. Its harder on a motor to let it sit and idle with extra fuel getting dumped into the cylinders than it is just to take it out and drive it carefully until warm.

The premium I was using was ethanol free. Offered for peoples boats I'm guessing. Still lost me mileage.

There is a difference between starting your vehicle and Slowly driving away for a few miles till it warms up, and hopping in and entering a drag race.
Beat on it while cold and I agree with you. If I let the truck idle to warm up it takes around 10 mins to hit warms Temps. I drive very slow at first and it's warm in 3-4mins.

Your truck isn't a lemon, it's just a Tacoma. You're not a Tacoma enthusiast or you wouldn't be complaining about gas mileage. We (the TW community) don't buy Tacomas for gas mileage/speed/full size truck capabilities/towing capacities/etc.... we buy them and mod them because they're what we like and want.:anonymous::cheers:

I found this in the glove box of a 68 LeMans. Been using it for years. I hate maths.

Well....the gas piston engine still is lubricated by that oil in your crankcase. The only fundamental difference in engines today is that tolerances are tighter and there is a better understanding of metallurgy and how different metals react under stress (i.e. 1940s Harley) There is absolutely nothing wrong with letting your engine warm up. What do you think happens when you step on the accelerator?! It doesn't add extra fuel at idle just to add fuel..it's operates the engine at a higher rpm to get to the appropriate operating temperature. It is exactly the same as driving.

I did read it. But the minute those cylinders start moving oil is being pumped. And the minute that mixture becomes rich the oxygen sensors are sending inputs to the ECU to modify the fuel/air mix. I see the logic but your engine would have to have a serious spark issue for this to be a concern. Especially with synthetic oils.

your truck probably has aftermarket lift,larger/heavier tires all of these will reduce MPGs in the 2.7l engine and you drive like an asshole
