I am planning on changiing my tires to those Hankook tires that have low rolling resistance and pumping them up to 80psi. Maybe that'll help get an extra 2mpg!?!

I was on gasbuddy.com today and saw that the price of gas in Washington State is $4.17/gallon. That converts to roughly $0.93/Liter Canadian. Here in Vancouver we are paying $1.52/Liter, which converts to about $6.77/gallon US. My question is why do they have such cheap gas in the States?

I looked up the taxes applied to Canadian gas, and when when you take taxes out of our price, we are paying $0.21/Liter more than in Washington. We are paying $0.37/Liter in taxes (in Vancouver), which puts the price before taxes at $1.14/Liter.

I did it again. Got tired of paying truck payments and gas and traded in for a 2015 Honda Accord Sport since I enjoyed my 2013 Sport so much.
If you live near the southern border of the US, you can go down to Mexico and fill up for way less than stateside.

Of course, what you save may be offset by the times you'll spend in the lines getting back into teh US.

Just curious to see what all those that keep crying wolf have to say about the fact that oil has gone down for yet another day, closing below $130/barrel from it's high of $146 a week and a half ago. Interesting how the mainstream media keeps ignoring this fact.

Drill here, drill now. And anyone who mentions the liberal talking point about 68 million acres of oil leases is getting run over by my Tacoma. Two things about that: 1. There is no oil there. 2. Why would you think that oil companies wouldn't do everything they could to capitalize on these historic oil prices and drill for it if they could?

You want lower prices? Start letting your Congressional representatives know how you feel. Let's let the anti-domestic drilling folks know that 80% of us (according to polls) WANT domestic drilling now.

I just watched the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer and he mentioned the drop at the top of the hour (I don’t know if this counts as mainstream). Despite the recent drop, anyone who thinks we are headed back to $2 gasoline is living in a fantasy world. I would suggest reviewing my previous post (#27 in this thread) for the facts on oil.

Gas prices are going up just like everything else beacause of many reasons. The main one being so many more people are looking for a quick buck and don't want to work!!

Exactly. Follow the money. Speculators will be selling when they think the ride is over which is sort of a self fulfilling prophecy. It's a bubble and it will burst. Same thing happened with housing, the internet, etc. throughout history.

I will say that there is more than one factor involved in oils rapid rise this time around so nobody really knows for sure where we'll end up. However, gas rose to $1.25 in 1973 and then I was paying $0.75 in 1998. Plenty of people said similar things in 1973 to what Cometkat said above: "anyone who thinks we are headed back to $2 gasoline is living in a fantasy world".

This is an interesting comment (I'm being kind) that has no basis in reality, but interesting nonetheless.

Yep, one thing about investing, as soon as everyone starts thinking it can only go up, that's usually a signal that a huge correction is right around the corner. It happened with internet stocks in 2000, gold in the 1980s and today's housing market. The thing people don't realize with speculators is that they can make as much money going down as they did going up (the trend is your friend).

According to this site, the Navy/Marine Corps and the Air Force account for almost 85% of all fuel useage (ships and jets use lots of fuel).
