I used to have an '86 Turbo 4Runner. When it was my brother's, he replaced the digital gauges with analog, but the gas sender was screwed up (sender had 3 wires for the digital gauge) so the gauge would start full, go down to about half, then reverse and go back up to full (when empty). So I learned a long time ago not to reply on the gas light for when I needed gas. I avoid letting it get under a 1/4 tank, not because I think it's bad for the fuel pump or something, but I just don't like running out of gas.

Also, your dealer was lying to you when they said they "reset" the gas light. That's BS - as others have said, no such thing.

I thought so. Standard cabs didn't get the light as far as I know.
